Known linux issues
If the game doesn't start:

* Make sure you have "libtcmalloc-minimal4:i386" installed. (Ubuntu package, if you are using something else, use the relevant library in your distro.)
* Make sure you have graphics card drivers in order.
* Make sure you have correct system specs.

If none of these help. Open terminal and cd into the game folder (under ~/.steam/...) and run ./bms.sh and post the output here.

Please provide your system specs, OS and driver versions.

Shadow errors:

There might be some minor shadow errors left in the game, if you happen to get these, try to lower/change your shadow detail in the options menu.

VOIP doesn't work:

This will be fixed in the future patches.

Crashes during helicopter explosion

This problem has been fixed and is released in the next patch.

Hello all -

When trying to play Black Mesa, I get a "Preparing To launch" popup, then the game's status shows "running", but the game never appears anywhere. I have "libtcmalloc-minimal4:i386" installed. I am running MXLinux 17 x64 WITH 4gB ram. Other linux compatible steam gamnes run fine.

The output of bms.sh and my system specs are both posted, consecutively, below:

BMS.SH:

Maybe they need to talk to Techland. I rarely have problems in Gentoo Linux playing Dying Light.
The OverDark Bug

Within a few seconds of loading a save game the brightness level always drops significantly:
You have the OverDark Bug.
To fix it type the following command into the console

mat_tonemapping_occlusion_use_stencil 1
appears on Linux with iGPU, too.

After typing the command into the in-game console fixed it.

Unfortunately it should be necessarily to type this command always after startup of the game. I didn't found any way to configure it on a file.

I found a solution to solve the problem.

After configuring the file "bms/cfg/config.cfg" and changing the file right to readonly, it works now :-)
Hello all,
I have the libtcmalloc-minimal4:i386 package installed, and went to run the game from the terminal to get output, and got:
"./bms.sh
Failed to load the launcher"
Any ideas? I have some bugs I'd like to report. I'm on Ubuntu 16.04 and on the latest nvidia driver from the proprietary graphics PPA. I am running into at least a crash and also shadow bugs not present when running the game on Windows 10. And no, there's no option in the GUI to disable the shadows that are causing the bugs.

For the Xen engine update, ensure you have the 32-bit libtcmalloc-minimal4:i386 or equivalent.

sudo apt-file search sudo apt-file search libtcmalloc_minimal.so.4
sudo yum whatprovdes sudo apt-file search libtcmalloc_minimal.so.4

On SteamOS at least, monitor /tmp/dumps/steam_stdout.txt with tail -f <FILE>.
ProfessorKaos64,
I have that library installed. I just need to find out where the crashes are stored. I wonder if the location is similar on Linux. Do you know the file extension for the dumps can and where I can share them to give constructive feedback? Ifriend requested a BM dev, hopefully he doesn't think I'm going to bug the heck out of him.
Today I noticed that every NPC and player are totally black.
Yeah there are shadow issues on Linux as far as I can tell. I'm trying to report those,
too, but first I need to figure out where the logs are stored. Steam, at least on Ubuntu, keeps its files to the .steam folder in the home folder. If only I knew the file extensions and folders to look in.
I've faced with a problem after last update:
I'm able to launch game after installing libtcmalloc-minimal4:i386, and able to hear the sound from game, but see no image at all.

I've uploaded logs from bms.sh here: https://pastebin.com/iJVwdUjx

I have Ubuntu 16.04 with mesa drivers from ubuntu x-swat-team ppa + HWE kernel (4.13) and Radeon HD 6770 video card.

Also, I remember that some time ago I did some hack to make Stema works on my 64 bit system by removing 32 bit versions of libsdc++ and libgcc from Steam directory. I cant remember details, and I'm not sure that I still have Steam installation affected by that hacks as Steam are updated many times since then.
Steps and problem that I did then can be found on many aritcles (e.g. https://askubuntu.com/a/771507).

UPD: No, I've definitely removed libstdc++ and libgcc libraries from Steam directories:
ivan@ivanpc:~$ find .local/share/Steam/ -name 'libstdc++*so*' -o -name 'libgcc*so*'
ivan@ivanpc:~$

Sharing this just in case it somehow can affect something with libtcmalloc-minimal4:i386.

Feel free to PM me if I can somehow help with collecting debug information.

If I run `bsm`,` Failed to load the launcher` appears. But I can run the game from Steam, with the problem that the screen remains in black and the game is heard in the background (even the interaction with the menus).

System:
Archlinux 64 bits
Grapchics AMD Vapor X
16GB RAM
mesa 18.0.1-1

I have installed libtcmallo-minimal4 (not the i386 though since it is not available) Black Mesa would not start.

Clearly you have to have the 32 bit version.

All you have to do is run :

sudo apt install libtcmalloc-minimal4:1386

and it will install.

After installing libtcmalloc-minimal4:i386 the game will start, but now the characters and weapons have no textures, is just a silhouette.
