This game has some pretty crappy achievements
There are no achievements for level progress but there are more than half a dozen that involve you dying on purpose. Some of them are finicky and very difficult to track. And then there are not one, but THREE different achievements which involve carrying some arbitrary object for an unreasonable length of time. It's not even possible to do them all simultaneously, you have to do a new playthrough each time. Right now I'm doing "The Plan" achievement and it's clear that this has never been actually tested. If you try to go through a teleporter while carrying the canister, you get stuck and have to use cheats to clip out. There's one point in the Xen alien labs where you literally cannot carry it down a hatch that has opened due to some invisible floor. As far as I can tell there's no way through. These achievements were probably all tested using debug spawns rather than actually trying it the intended way.

The whole point of achievements is to reward players for being extra observant, or skillful, or making use of different mechanics in order to get the most out of the game. But there are some tasks that no one would ever even have thought of doing if it weren't for the achievement, and then the only reason they would even bother is to get said achievement. Carrying objects around and committing suicide at specific times doesn't even enhance the enjoyment or the experience of the game, they impede it. Carrying things through the game isn't even a new idea, Valve did it first with the gnome in Episode 2. At the time it was fresh and interesting but I wouldn't have ever wanted to do it again, let alone three more times.

I did all three carry achievements at once. It's very difficult and extremely masochistic, but it's possible!

Achievements are achievements; they're meant to be difficult, not given to you for playing the game! You also mentioned an invisible floor, could you provide a screenshot or location of what you mean?

I already stated what achievements are for. They don't have to be difficult but they don't have to be a chore either.

Turns out I didn't have to take the canister through the floor anyway since I was going back to that room again, but this is what happened.

While it's not the best game design, you don't need to use "cheats" when you get stuck with the canister in teleporters (and you wouldn't want to use cheats because it disables achievements I believe). You can throw a grenade close to you, (not close enough to kill you or cause significant damage) to dislodge the cannister from underneath you.

The point isn't that they aren't possible, they're just a tedious addition.

Good. Achievements for "play the game" apart from hardest difficulty ones is a practice that needs to end.

I'm not against such achievements. Even Half-Life 2 and its episodes, as well as Portal games have them.

It shows how far other people have progressed and is a good benchmark for other "extraneous" achievements. Most people don't even finish the levels.

Why bother with the achievements if they're not fun for you ?

I'm fine with Most of them but the ones where you have to carry stuff are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and the Devs Know it.

HL2 EP2 is like a 3 hour game, Black Mesa is like 20. 20 Hours of having to carry a stupid hat AND a Pizza? I know Achievements are for fun, I respect that, But generally they should BE FUN and reward the player for experimenting and seeing what works and doesn't. Carrying it to Xen was Terrible but I just stopped there.

Xen wasn't designed for that stupid hat:bea:

It doesn't help that the devs continually break save games. I was over 60% way through a game and had to start over due to the devs being "unable to fix previous saves" (which is also utter rubbish). Back to carrying objects up overly long ladders!
