Music no longer works for this game.
I decided to play some parts again, but I noticed that the background music doesn't play anymore for some reason. Does anyone know why or how to fix this?

Any sound changing mods you have installed?

Delete 8 sound.cache files in the bms folder and 1 sound.cache file in the sound folder . Then go to properties for black mesa from your steam library and on set launch options type snd_restart. If that doesn't work try downloading one of microsofts visual C++ redistributable packages. I don't know exactly which one though.

Do what [HOL] Solringen said and then

Restart your computer and install this All In One (AIO) for Visual C++ Runtime, it will make sure all your Visual C++ files are up to date. https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/visual_c_runtime_installer.html

Or you can install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update" https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999
It's labeled as a security update but it's just an updated version of the same Visual C++ runtimes.

Try typing in the console: snd_restart

Nothing here worked. My laptop didn't trust the majorgeek one, so I didn't try it though.

Sometimes you just have to know what you're doing.

Okay, I did it and reset my laptop, still doesn't work. (FYI, the parts I'm testing are the Gargantuan chase, and the military ambush after getting the Gauss cannon.

The download also didn't work.

Weird... have you checked the file cache (or something like that)??? It actually solved problems with audio for me in a similar situation in Half-Life 2, Episode One
Unowninator Jun 13, 2019 @ 10:36pm
I verified the cache, if that's what you're asking. The sound works, just not the music.

From the menu, click Options. In that menu, click Audio. Make sure that the Music Volume is not at 0.

It's at max.

Like all the Half-Life Games this doesn't have any ambient music except for at specific moments, ie. going up the elevator to the surface in "We've Got Hostiles." So unless you don't have music at those points there is no music.

I'm testing a part that I know for a fact has music. Specifically, the part where the Gargantua chases me. There was music when I first encountered it, but now no music shows up at all anymore.
