Patch Update - Better Physics & Spellbook Controls!

Aug 25

Hello everyone!

We have another small patch with a few improvements and fixes based on feedback.

Better Physics

Items should now feel a little more reactive when you're moving them around the shop.

When you pick up an item from the ground, nearby items will now wake up as well, allowing them to react more naturally to what you're doing around them.

Better Spellbooks

Apologies for not catching this one earlier!

At some point, some of the UI input logic for the spellbooks had reset. This made navigating them with a controller more awkward than it was supposed to be.

The Sorcery and Enchantment spellbooks should now feel much better to navigate and interact with using a controller.

Bug Fixes & Tuning

As usual, this patch also includes various bug fixes, tweaks, and general tuning throughout the game.

Thank you everyone for continuing to play, report issues, and send feedback!

Leaderboards No Longer Worth It

So I was looking through the times and I saw 12:20 for the first stage. I'm sorry, but I ran a complete analysis on the possibility for someone to get that time and it's inhumanly possible. That's 1.42 items a second, correctly placed constantly without ever slowing down. Even with spells the moment you tried to buy an upgrade you'd lose that. It's just impossible so this means only one thing: Cheating. And yes, it's always done on these kinds of leaderboards. Invariably, someone must always be better than...

There are too many modes

Casual mode, timed mode, no mana, archangel modes... Just remove casual mode and no mana, they are not needed. You can already play timed mode with magic or without magic ! I need to play 4 times the same map if I want all achievements...

That's a lot of tidying up to do.

A Guide to Potions, Elixirs, and Other Bottled Items for The Grand Athenaeum

If you want to organize your potions section by the variety of each named potion, not by color or bottle shape, this will help with the number of varieties each potion has.

i was so excited to try this one. im running out of non-slop sorting games that dont use ai.

unfortunately, after only 16 minutes, i had to stop playing as the motion blur/graphic settings actually made me physically sick. im prone to motion sickness but rarely have i ever gotten this unwell from a game :( there is not enough accessibility options. if this is a must for you, i do not recommend this game and that makes me so sad 😭

(Mostly) Colour Coordinated Grand Athenaeum

Screenshot examples of how you can organize the biggest level in the game, prioritizing aesthetics. There are tons of ways you can tidy this place up and this is just a suggestion. Enjoy the cleaning!

First, if you enjoyed Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library you'll love this game. Alternatively, if you love this game and haven't played Librarian, go check it out! Shelves and Sorcery is a relaxing game that has pretty assets and shops, with magic and skills that do make things easier if you want. It's a lot of fun having all of the different types of shop items to categorize and lining the potions up in glowing, shiny rows is satisfying. All in all I'd definitely say it's worth it!

Great game, only thing I dont really like is that some potions are 3 of a kind, as in same kind, different colors, so it's weird to place them on shelves.

Potions are DIABOLICAL

I was originally planning to make a review, but this feels like something worth deeper discussion between the dev and their player base. If I'm the only one bothered, I mean, let me know, I just wanted to open a discussion I want to say up front, I love the idea of this game. I was excited for it. The amount of stuff to do was exciting. But then I reached the third shop, and the POTIONS... Well, I say "potions," but they're not all potions, are they? They're elixirs, and potions, and essences, and brews,...

A level for obsessive sorters?

I hope more hard levels come out, with all of these new assets and such, but I want to be able to organize EVERYTHING available. I want the IKEA of Shelves and Sorcery, and I want to be sure that I'm not alone in that want-

Organisation Tips?

Title! Looking for folks to share how they organise their items on the shelves. I try to go alphabetically, but that tends to look kind of chaotic for things like potions and swords - especially on the biggest map, where there are multiple shelves for potions. Having a great time with this, though. Some of the item titles got a giggle out of me. Excited to see where this and Teddy's Haven both go!...

Patch Update - Arcane Sight Improvements, DirectX 11 & More!

Aug 24

Hello everyone!

Based on your feedback, we have a few new changes and fixes in this update.

Arcane Sight Update... Again!

Arcane Sight has gotten another improvement!

If you're holding an item, Arcane Sight will now show you not only where dropped copies of that item are located, but also which shelves you've already placed that item on.

Thanks again for all the feedback on Arcane Sight.

DirectX 11 Launch Option

Tuning the game for such a wide variety of machines can be difficult, and I've found that some visual issues can be resolved by running the game in DirectX 11.

A DirectX 11 launch option is now available.

If you're experiencing strange visual issues, graphical glitches, or other rendering weirdness, give the DirectX 11 option a try!

More Bug Fixes & Tuning

As always, there are also more general bug fixes and tweaks throughout the game.

This includes fixing an issue where some shelves and counters would turn into absolute mush when viewed from a distance.

Thanks, LODs.

And thank you everyone for continuing to send feedback. It really does help make Shelves and Sorcery better!

Demo Now Available!

Aug 20

Hello everyone!

A demo for Shelves and Sorcery is now available!

The demo includes The Hearth & Barrel, the first shop in the game, and can be played in Casual Mode.

It’s a good way to get a feel for the organizing, spells, enchantments, and general gameplay before jumping into the full game.

The full version includes all three shops along with Casual, Timed, Archmage, and No Magic modes.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported Shelves and Sorcery so far. I hope the demo gives even more people a chance to check it out!
