Margarite Entertainment’s Upcoming Steam Releases
We truly appreciate everyone's enthusiasm! In response to the concerns, we would like to clarify that Margarite Entertainment has obtained the rights to a few classic titles (including Big Rigs Over the Road Racing) worldwide, and they will be released on Steam!

While we were not planning the formal announcement today, we wanted to thank GXZ95 (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT9Efek9kURER0MGqRJUYAA) for video and SteamGridDB (https://www.steamgriddb.com/) for their asset. We have contacted GXZ95 via email and obtained his consent.

As an aside, we wanted to clarify that the SteamGridDB was just some altered box art, and we did not need their permission for use.

Of course, we should have credited them. As mentioned before, we were not planning on making an announcement today.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support.

We will check the Steam discussion regularly, and players are always welcome to send us feedback at https://forms.office.com/r/RzHXwSHthk.

Alright, I'll choose to believe this. Good to see that this seems to be an actual re-release of the game rather than an illegal cashgrab like most (including me) believed at first.

Some notes though:

• I would much rather the icon for the game just be the original icon rather than an AI upscaled version of it.

• As an active user of SteamGridDB, I don't think using assets from there is a bad thing*, but I still feel like credit should be given to the users who made those assets (Rod and Elke1133) as well rather than just crediting the site.

*Assets from that site do spread far and wide after all. My custom horizontal logo for CoD MWIII ended up being used on Logopedia for example.

"We have contacted GXZ95 via email and obtained his consent." So does this mean you got their consent AFTER posting the Steam page?

Still pretty scummy, alongside, "we wanted to clarify that the SteamGridDB was just some altered box art, and we did not need their permission for use."

If you got the rights to publish the game, I would also assume that you'd have the rights to its marketing material, and wouldn't need to take the very first result that shows up on SteamGridDB.

On top of the barebones description with a barely edited version of the back of the box, no mention on how you're getting it running on modern windows (via a wrapper like dgVoodoo or a custom engine), and I'm still not even close to 100% on board that this isn't a scam.

To be fair I don't know if GameMill even still has the marketing material for Big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Rigs. Maybe the box's art, but they would have to dig for that, I imagine. All the internet has are scans, AFAIK.

I am more talking about they should either be able to create their own with no legal issues or use any proper marketing material provided to them for the acquisition of the property/rights.

They shouldn't be resorting to using a fan-created image and a 12 year old YouTube video to promote their game.

Will there be achievement features in this game?:CoolerCircuit:

please, don't be a scumbag. this "game" was a scam over 20 years ago and selling it on Steam now would still inarguably be a total scam.

Okay, first off, you haven't even said how you are going to get this game to run properly on modern computers. How are you going to make sure the game can be launched on, say, Windows 11 without any issues? This game came out in 2003 and it probably is very, very difficult to ensure it is compatible with modern devices. And I am not talking simply putting it into "compatibility mode", I mean making the game fully compatible with modern versions of Windows without the need for any extra steps such as compatibility mode. It took GOG roughly 2 years for them to make Alpha Protocol able to be launched. The Steam release was old and incompatible with modern devices, as it would just crash upon startup. The only way you'd be able to make this game compatible fully with Windows 10/11 is you would have to do what GOG does with their game releases.

Also, second off, and lastly, this game was a scam in 2003 and was being officially sold by Stellar Stone at Walmart locations. They actually expected people to pay money for this game and tricked people with its deceiving box art and game description. This re-release should not, in any way, shape, or form, cost money at all. This should be a completely free download even if it is a re-release. The game was sent out to market in a completely unfinished state and I am convinced that Stellar Stone shipped out an internal test build to manufacturing. Making people pay money for this game on Steam would just be a scam all over again. If you're going to give this game a re-release, then you need to make it a free-to-play title. No, I'm not saying this because I don't have money, I'm saying this because the game was a scam back then and would be a scam again now if you made people even pay a dollar. Do not make it a paid title under any circumstances. If it is free then I won't have an issue with it being on Steam. It'll only be an issue if you make people pay money to play this. That would be the issue. Make it free, do not make it paid. It'll not be a scam in any way unless you make people pay money for this.

I'm all for game preservation, but right now I'm very skeptical of this Steam release. It just seems too good to be true right now and I really hope I'm proven wrong.
