Multiplayer or not?
Hi guys, is this game multiplayer or not? when I start a open game I never see any other players eventhough the game is advertised as "multiplayer . Does "open game" mean I have to invite friends to join, or is it open for any player out there?...

I think this game would be so much more fun if you have people (hostile or neutrals, their choice) in your game randoml i.e. when someone chooses to join open world they are placed on a random server.

If a server decides to bounche they should just be transfered incl. their current mission to a new server or something :) anyways, u get my point haha... would suck if this game is Single Player only and MP when you invite people...

Yes

But, finding players in such a sparse and P2P world is not frequent unfortunately.

This actually ruins Open play in my opinion. I came to Elite hoping for real player interaction, I get NPC's mostly. I am disapointed. It really is effectively a solo game most of the time.

Check the main hubs and shipping lanes or high population areas, that will increase your chances of human interacton.

This game needs a population heatmap on the galaxy map badly.

I like this idea. Definitely a feature they should look into.

@ OP:
Look in systems with Community Goals, or Eravate, Lave, Leesti, PowerPlay primary systems and you will see lot's of players.
But yeah. Elite is mostly a solitary game. Don't expect too much interaction.
Oke figures with a such an open world... guess I have to make some friends then and build an empire togather :D thanks so much for your replies guys ^^

Note that the galaxy is pretty much 1:1 size in ED. There are 400 Billion Stars. The human inhabited "Bubble" alone are ~22,000 systems. That is really a lot for players to spread.

You are definately right but still... some co-op stuff would be nice haha i.e. missions especially designed for multiple people so you are forced to co-op, but now I have to find friends and invite them as I never see people but yeah... large game haha. I know all I needed to know, thanks a lot guys!

Yeah, I'm waiting for this a long time... they made wings and player crews is about to come, but nothing you can actually really do with each other like shared missions or something. That's mostly why my friends are not interested in playing, because you can't do something that makes sense with each other in COOP.

Take a look on your radar:
All symbols that are solid are NPCs. All symbols that are only a frame are players.
Take also a look on your left side UI Panel/Contacts: all Ships with a "CMDR" are controlled by players.
If you want to chat to players got to Comm (UI up) and chat to local or select a CMDR and chat to him. You can also open a voice com connection from the Comm Menu.

Most players are around the community goals, some planet systems are claimed by player groups (like Eravate by Adeles Armada), and you can meet players there. Drop a ton of beer or booze to say hallo ;-)

You can invite other players to a wing in the com menu, even if they are not in your friends list. If you want to do a shared mission: HazRES and strong signal sources with high thread levels are best engaged with a full wing.

fly to any system with an engineer, other systems that are popular for whatever reason or to any community goal etc... you will find plenty of players... outside the hotspots encounters with other players are less frequent...
"some planet systems are claimed by player groups" you mean they self claimed the planet and kill other people as they want? :P

Or they just hacking out there standard?

Thanks for the answer guys, will look into that, awesome game already and will be much more fun with more people :D

Now all I have to figure out is how to be able to land on a planet lol... when I check my ship it says I got the planet landing outfit or something but when I try to fly to one I get halted :D

to land on planets you need horizons!

not every planet is landable! in the system map if the planet has a blu eoutline you can land on it... and they vary in gravitation low and high... so be careful when you approach one! also make sure you have an SRV hangar AND and actual SRV on board caus e both are sold seperately...

lol either its someone saying "i get killed by cmdrs all the time" or its " i never see anyone". we never hear " wow i saw exactly the expected number of players." lolz

Player groups can apply to become recognized in the game. They get a minor NPC faction with their name then and can call that station or system their home... unless it's an anarchy faction laws still apply. So they cannot go around killing people unpunished.

The (for now) landable planets have a blue ring around them in the system map. Just approach them at slow speed. First you'll drop into orbital cruise then you'll go into "glide" for the final approach. (you may not go at the planet on a very steep angle (afaik not more than -65°) or you'll drop out).
Note that your thrusters have to work against gravity. So your usable thruster performance is lowered. TL:DR: Do it slow and careful the first few approaches.

Sounds goog guys, thanks for the replies :D
I tried finding the hangar and SRV but I cannot find it anywhere, maybe I am using the wrong ship? (not even sure how to verify which ship I have lol). Doing transport runs atm to make money (transport data), slow money but I get to know the game lol :D

Would be nice to make some more / faster money though but I still have to figure that part out haha.

Add me to friends if anyone wants for future co-op ;)
