Multiple Vives in same area.
When giving demos on the Vive at a VR Meetup, other people in the same room might also be giving demos on their own Vive systems. It seems like this will cause a lot of issues.

From my own tests of having multiple base stations in the same area, it seems that tracking will work, but then when the headset faces the other base stations, tracking will completely stop and the compositor will turn grey.

Have any of you other developers had experience in these situations and have tips for successfully demoing with other Vives?

Does Valve have any advice for this or have plans to have the software either reject offending base stations(or use them to improve tracking)?

I had a similar situation a week ago when I did demos at a venue and another developer was there with his Vive setup. The only quick solution we came up with was using a portable curtain/wall and moved it between our two Vive setups to avoid crosstalk between the setups. I hope this problem will be fixed soon, or organizers like VRLA will have a barrel of "fun" with their next events.

Not a direct answer, but what I thought you may be asking about when I read the title. Having multiple Vives with a single base station setup has worked very well for us.

We've had several instances at the office where two people are testing on two seperate computers in the same space with two HMD's but only a single pair of base stations for the entire room. Solid performance on both sides, didn't notice any difference compared just having a single HMD and controllers present.

I've see 5 headsets run off just a pair of base stations - as the base stations are just reference points, the only limiting factor is oclusion..

Thanks for the insight!

Shen, I'm sure that multiple Vives would run no problem off just two base stations granted they're within 15 feet. Though if there is say a 50 foot room and I'm giving demos on one side and someone else is giving demos on the other side, I'm sure the base stations are two far to use only one set, and could cause problems.

This was put to the test last night at the SVVR Holliday Party. There were three sets of Lighthouse base stations in the room all running at once. There was a good 15-20 feet between the other Vives.

My Vive had no problems, even when looking directly towards the other base stations!

Karl was also running a Vive system and said he had some problems, but I don't know the details, there's lots of other reasons for issues, like reflections, and wireless interference. Luckily I think that as long as systems are spaced far enough apart, it's not a problem. Also, multiple computers can all share the same Lighthouse Base Stations.
