Microphone not working.
I have had the Vive for about a year now but never tried using the microphone. Last night I was trying to use it in Discord while playing Tabletop Simulator. I have the deluxe audio strap so I can't just put my headset over my vive (easily anyways) and use that microphone. Any troubleshooting suggestions? Thanks in advance! :steamhappy:

Edit: Looks like Discord was my issue!

Have you set the Vive mic as the default mic in your StamVR settings? Have you tested it in windows sound settings? Either of those should resolve the problem.

Worst case senario and the mic is faulty, you can just buy a tie clip mic and use that (they are really cheap).

Yeah I have it set as the default mic in my SteamVR settings. I just tried using the speech recognition software and that seems to pick it up a little bit! Maybe the mic is just too quiet for Discord?

Edit: Looks the problem was discord, I had to reset audio settings and it seems to be functioning normally now. Thanks for the suggestions The Maddog!

No problem. I will forewarn you though..the Vive mice is garbage with voice recognition software...which is exactly why I bought a cheap tie mic. Perfectly fine for ingame chatting with people though.

You might want to check the settings of the game you are playing and make sure the Vive mic is set as your default mic in windows sound settings.

Regarding OP's issue, for Windows 10, check to ensure that your microphone is not disabled under privacy settings.

If you can set the microphone as the default recording device but are unable to get any levels, then this might be your issue. It was for me, and VIVE support was unable to figure this out. Luckily I managed to figure this out myself.

I can't quite find out what you mean by privacy settings, can you elaborate?

Privacy settings can be accessed in windows 10 by clicking the windows symbol/start-----> cog wheel/settings-------------> privacy---------->microphone--------------> allow apps to access ON, for troubleshooting purposes make sure everything is checked on.

One note if you go into mic properties and turn on "listen to this device" and output to your speakers or headset, can you hear yourself.... or can you now see green bars (may have to exit sound manager and re-enter is gray bars don't even show after turning this on)?

If you can it's a software problem.

If the privacy issue doesnt help, I had to update the vive software from vive (not steamvr) and my video card software not sure if any of these helped.

I lastly had to steamvr "integrity check" which also found a problem.

One of these fixed my issue!
