It seems that just a few people made this nice-looking game
I have been looking at this game - reading the forums - watching videos, etc.

I was looking at the manual of the game and it seems like it was created by the bare minimum of people:

R. T. Smith
Project Director and Programmer

John Carline
Co Creator and Art Director

Jirayu Malapon
Animator

Carl Clark and others
Music and SF.

Seriously, games like Civilization, etc have dozens of people making them.

So, on that basis, is this game not truly awesome?

Surely, even if people can find certain faults/shortcomings, it kind of counter balances by the fact that it appears that less than half a dozen people have created this.

Plus, I think the price is very fair.

To me it looks like it could have been made by a huge development team. It doesn't come across as something that was made by half a dozen people.

I think I am going to buy it out of respect more than anything else.

The value you get for the price is definitely really good. I got my 100ish hours out of it and am waiting for some updates atm to hopefully get a bunch more once things are more smooth.

And the to be honest I have no clue what AAA developers do with their giant staff. It feels like half their team is working on DLC from the very beginning because the base games are often so bare bones. The last Civs in particular. I didn't even play them much without mods and the DLCs were horrendous cash grabs. Even in Civ 4 (my favourite) I probably played 80% of my playtime with mods. A freaking bunch of fans made a better game/"DLC" than the developer. Sad almost.

I hope the trend of medium tier games like this and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice continues. While I like me some niche little indie games the hype for them already gets abused on Steam and such and the platform gets flooded by terrible games only because they are "indie". I really don't need 200 RPG Maker games that my little cousin could have made in 2 weeks.

TL;DR Triple AAA studios are way too oversized and expensive. Hope medium tier continues to grow.

Core team was three people. The guys at Iceberg were very helpful too with testing and suggestions.

Wow. I knew you guys were a small team, but I didn't realize how small. That is very impressive. Well done!

Wow!

This game is less than 500MB.

I'm shocked.

didnt even know about this game before the iceberg developer sale, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this is a great game. Hope you keep it up and you will create other titles and make this into a series. I have played tons of hours of Civ games and all of the total war series from first to last and must say that this has me way more interested than any of the others.

Not trying to be mean and devs are respected for their hard work. That said, a rational customer would not think the way you do. You don't go to a huge restaurant managed by a single amateur chef without a team and the waiter tells you: "I know the food isn't great but we only have one chef and on top of that, your meal is heavily discounted, so you should like it right?" Uh no, unfortunately there's no excuse for poor game quality from a customer's perspective. Not saying this is the case here, but just disagreeing with such thinking.

Honestly this is one of the greatest strategy games by a smaller developer that I've seen in a long time. And I've been following since the Early Access! Outside of a few disagreements in terms of combat and City limit, this is a fantastic purchase, and all the better knowing it was made by a core team of dedicated folks!

Yeh, but you are using a skewed example that you have invented which wouldn't probably be rational.

How about eating a decent meal at a restaurant and maybe finding something to comment on that wasn't quite to your liking, then finding out that the chef works alone, is blind and only has one arm? ie he was a chef before he was blind - lost his sight and an arm, but soldiers on as a chef. You would then probably think it was quite an immpressive meal base on his shortcomings.

No, you're the one giving a skewed example. Which chef works blind? I rest my case.

Yeah, and how many are there if they even exist? It's still a skewed example. What about safety standards and efficiency required of normal chefs? It's a commercial business like game development, not some charitable initiative (no offense to less fortunate people).

Could you just accept a meal that a blind chef (with one arm) made for you, without nit-picking it apart?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate good devs especially those who take efforts to maintain good support even after launch. In fact, I even consider supporting them EA if they have such a reputation although buying EA isn't my usual practice. I guess if you've played the game and enjoyed it, I won't judge because I don't own it. But if I do, I'll judge it based on its merits as a customer, not on mitigating reasons. And I don't nit pick as long as there are no hostile seller practices. So we're cool yeah? :steamhappy:
