HOW TO FIX YOUR FIGHT STICK AND DPAD (Multiple Fixes)
IF YOU'RE PIRATING THE GAME, DON'T ASK FOR HELP.
Not only do we not support piracy (And why are you even posting here if you did pirate the game, genius?), game cracks often change the source code of the game, thus being the reason why these fixes probably don't work for you. The fix, in your case, is to either buy the game, or realize that games are a luxury item, not a necessity for living.

I don't work for Capcom, so I'm not obligated to give you free tech support for a game you didn't even buy.

NOTE: Some controllers don't seem to work for some people regardless of the fixes below. In that case, try the fixes below. If they don't work, submit feedback to Capcom directly.

There's an ongoing bug about the LB button not working for Mission mode. If you have this problem, please do not post it in this thread, contact Capcom immediately to have this bug fixed as soon as possible.

PS3 Controllers and Generic Controllers:
Just use X360CE. Literally download the 64-bit version, paste the EXE in your MvC3 folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3 and run the EXE there. Then just do auto set up as it instructs. Save, close, run UMvC3.

I figured out a better solution! When you're in Big Picture Mode, go to Settings and go to controllers. Once you're there, where it says detected controller it click on your device (Mine said Razer Panthera because I have the Razer Panthera fight stick set to PS4) from there, it makes you map your inputs. Once you finish mapping your inputs, restart the game and it works! :)
If your fight stick has a switch to control D-Pad vs Analog Stick:

if your buttons work, toggle the switch on your stick for left stick, dpad, etc.
Xbox 360 Controllers:
If you're using an Xbox360 controller/fightstick and it isn't working, try making sure it isn't set up as a generic controller through Steam big picture.

PSA try both everyone. Some xinput controllers register as generic instead of xbox.
Definitive fix for PS4 Controllers:

For those using a PS4 DualShock controller and want to use the D-pad, you can edit the config.ini file as follows:

[JOYPAD] ProductName=Wireless Controller A=1 B=2 X=0 Y=3 LEFT=POV RIGHT=POV UP=POV DOWN=POV START=9 BACK=8 LT=6 LB=4 RT=7 RB=5 LSTICK_PUSH=10 LSTICK_VERT=Y LSTICK_HORZ=X RSTICK_PUSH=11 RSTICK_VERT=Z RSTICK_HORZ=RZ

config.ini is located under the following directory:
..\Users\YourWindowsAccountName\AppData\Local\CAPCOM\ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3\config.ini

Did you actually run the EXE in your game folder? Maybe try giving me more information other than "it didn't work" like an error or something?

ok, so the exe is in the folder. I have set everything up as the program said. I get in the game. My controller does nothing.

Did you actually click save and close X360CE before running the game? Or did you just close it without saving?

Though this does fix it, not all sticks have this. Example: HORI Fightstick Mini 3 (Which is what I'm using). X360CE solves the problem just fine anyways.

This video is unnecessary and unrelated. It also looks like a SFV specific fix. It has no place in these forums.

so I clicked save. Closed program. Same issue. I am going to try restarting my pc again to see if it fixes anything.

Did you check to see if pressing buttons showed anything on the controller image when you're running the app?
