This is it guys! Some of you have already noticed the new Enchanted achievement (Launch the Enchanted Edition of the game). There has been a lot of discussion and speculation about this, and we're finally ready to let you know what we've been up to. You can also read more about this from our blog.[frozenbyte.com]

This is a work in progress and we'll keep updating this regularly. The changelogs will always be added to your game's files in the following directory: \Steam\SteamApps\common\Trine\_enchanted_edition_

What is Trine Enchanted Edition?

Trine Enchanted Edition is a port of Trine to the Trine 2 engine, and as a result, many of the “missing” features of the original game, such as online multiplayer, have been added! We have also updated the visual appearance of the game and improved the gameplay – the game should look and feel even better now. At the moment this patch is only for Windows. We will add Mac and Linux versions afterwards, but I can't give an estimate of the time frame for those yet.

I'd like to emphasize that Trine Enchanted Edition is still under development and this is only just the Beta-version. This means that bugs and issues will occur as it is still a work in progress. We are releasing the Beta password to you guys, because we want to offer you a chance to see what it's like, but also because we'd like to hear your thoughts, opinions and bug reports.

Both in this Beta version and in the actual version (once it's released), you can choose which version of the game you want to play from the game's launcher; so those who want to play the original version will still be able to do so.

How to Launch the BETA

  • Open your Steam Library
  • Right-click Trine and choose Properties
  • Navigate to the BETAS tab
  • Enter the following password to the access code field: TrineEEBeta2014
  • If the access code does not work, try to restart your Steam client
  • Make sure you have the beta chosen from the upper "Select the beta you would like to opt into:" menu and then close the window.
  • Make sure the Enchanted Edition is chosen from a drop down menu in the game's launcher when you start Trine.

How to report issues
  • Please include the version number and build number with your report. You can find these from the bottom right corner of the game's Main Menu. Mentioning these is really important, as we will be patching the game several times, and we need to know in which build the issue occurred to be able to look into it.
  • Check the 'known issues' section below. If your issue is already reported there, then we are aware of it and working on it, and there's no need to report it again. :)
  • Remember to mention which operating system you are using. Other system information will also be helpful. Note that at the moment, this patch is only for Windows.
  • Report your issue here with as much detail as you can think of; how did this occur, did you do anything special, does this issue occur every time or randomly, etc.
  • If you can, please post pictures of your issue.
  • Please don't post beta issues on these forums outside this thread as it will make it more difficult for us to locate them all. So if you report your issue here on the forums, please post in this thread. You can also email us at support[at]frozenbyte[dot]com - if you do send us an email, please title it clearly in the following way: "Trine EE BETA: [short description of issue]". A good title is for example. "Trine EE BETA: lv3 bug" or "Trine EE BETA: exp issue".

Known issues
Please check these before submitting a report! We will be updating this section as new issues come up.

  • A 'False Positive' alarm is sometimes caused by Norton Antivirus. We'd appreciate it if you fill up this form[submit.symantec.com] if you encounter this issue.
  • The save file import is currently in beta stage, so it might not work completely correctly.
  • Strength of the Titans skill is still under development and is not working properly. It's skill description might be wrong.
  • In multiplayer, skills don't always unlock properly for the players. This seems to be caused by a full inventory.
  • In Unlimited mode on multiplayer, skill points put in skills from earlier levels reset and don't get refunded. This should not occur in Classic mode.
  • In multiplayer, the fire cannons don't work properly for the clients and shoot out more fireballs than they should. The host can't see these additional fireballs.
  • Audio stutter and loss of audio.
  • Mouse cursor issues
  • On certain graphic cards, the very low setting causes the picture to look weird.
  • Achievement Summer Dip does not unlock with Scales of Fish equipped.
  • Issues with achievements Master Collector, The Cool Way and Spring master
  • If a box is placed on top of an obstacle, and the obstacle is later removed, the box does not fall down, but instead floats in the air. It should fall down properly upon touch.
  • When playing in hardcore mode on and all characters die, the game keeps running, but it is not possible to restart the level and the game has to be forcefully quit. Fixed
  • In multiplayer some SFX may be delayed to the clients (occasionally random skeleton explosions and spawning visuals after fights etc). Fixed
  • Playing for longer periods of time (90-180min) causes players to disconnect from the online game. Fixed
  • In an online multiplayer game if the host picks up an experience bottle it leaves the effect around the bottle flying in the air for the client. Fixed
  • It is possible to create a "dead server" with 9999 latency and 0/0 players.Fixed
  • Miniboss on Bramblestoke Village occasionally freezes.Fixed
  • In singleplayer pressing escape to skip a cinematic may require multiple pushes. Fixed
  • The cost of skills might be wrong in other languages than English. Fixed
  • It is possible to get the "change characters" tooltip to get stuck on the Academy Hallways after switching characters multiple times. Fixed
  • In multiplayer the shields carried by skeletons are not properly synched. Fixed

You know, this is something that really doesn't need to be done so I have to applaud the effort. This is true dedication to making your game the best it could possibly be and I have nothing but the utmost respect for you fellas at Frozenbyte because of it.

Trying launch game, steam just stop answer. Can't stop steam process even in task manager. Only restart PC
will you kill awesome physics bugs like flying carpet or solo zoya walkthrough?

my PC:
Win 7 64bits Traditional Chinese
ram : 16GB
display card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 590
display driver: Geforce 337.88

Launcher option:
resolution: 1920x1080
refresh rate: automatic or 60Hz or Run in window, All tried.
Anti-aliasing: On or Off, both tried.
Vertical sync: On or Off, both tried.
Graphics detail level: from Very Low to Very High
Stereoscopic 3D mode: None

When I start the game,I can see the menu, but the background is totally black, when I enter first level, I can't see anything except HUD.

And I have no problem with playing Trine 2.

I think I found the problem, after I disabled multiple GPU mode in Nvidia panel, Trine ee Beta is back to normal.
I hope Trine ee beta will support SLI display card such as GTX 590.

So this will be a patch that will automatically update the game after the beta ends and we will simply have to play the game in "Enchanted" mode in order to get that brand new achievement, right?

The game wouldn't start for me on Windows 8.1 but was showing up in the task manager. I'd get the config window but nothing after that.

I ticked Run as Admin for the game exe and it's working fine now.

Just thought I'd share that in case anyone else was having the same issue. W8 seems a lot more picky about admin rights than 7 was.

My GOD, that's amazing! I got Trine 2 during the winter sales iirc and played it through with my girlfriend - many fun times were had. While we skipped the first game due to no multiplayer I can honestly say we have no reason to any longer. Thank you so much, Frozenbyte, you're one of the best developers out there no doubt! Such dedication.. wow!

Trine ee beta ver.2.00 (build 367)

The beta game doesn't open on Windows XP SP3. Steam pop up the following error:
"Failed to start game (unknown error)".

Trying to open the game from Trine diretory (trine_launcher.exe) I get the following error:
"C:\Arquivos de programas\Steam\SteamApps\common\Trine\trine_launcher.exe is not a valid win32 application."

Using the same computer and the same steam and game installation, but on Windows 7 (installed on another partition), the game works fine.

The best developer ever!

About beta itself.... Game is working very smooth, i feel like it is much more smooth than trine 2 even if trine 2 works to me just fine. For now i passed intro and didn't find anything wrong with the game. Obviously i will report anything i will find. Later i will upload video where in beginning of level Pontius is trying to jump on invisible ledge, but it is typical glitch on beginning or ending of level, similar thing i reported in trine 2 as one of my entries to video contest.
One thing you could improve is video quality of cinematics, they seem to be very compressed, a bit pixelated.

My PC configuration:
CPU: AMD FX-8320
RAM: 16GB DDR3
GPU: Radeon R7 260x 1GB Gigabyte OC
PSU: OCZ ZS550
Soundcard: Creative X-Fi Titanium PCI-Ex x1
OS: Windows 8.1 Update 1 Enterprise x64

Same issue as Arnold, black screen with SLI activated. Runs fine with SLI off in NVidia control panel. I must add that's an amazing work you did here. Trine with Trine 2 interface, much much better!
But I think it's too shiny everywhere. My eyes don't like that. Too much bloom effects. And, is it useful to tell everytime "picked up mana", "picked up experience"...?
Otherwise, so far (1 hour of gameplay) it's perfect.
Oh, and why not a difficult + hardcore success ? ;)
For me only the new launcher works. If I select the original game it works but if I select the enchanted edition nothing happens. Any solution???
