Retro games that remind you of galacide
for me galacide reminds me of a cross between 2 games

the old ms-dos game major stryker:

Interesting that you mention Puzzle Bobble. We just had a discussion about possibilities to make the bit wall more exciting, and elements of Puzzle Bobble came up...

R-type - Bejeweled (I played more of the former on snes, and the latter isn't really retro).

Major Stryker had/has some funky sound effects.

When we first started working on Galacide I had never heard of another shmup/puzzle game before, but I kept looking since I figured they had to exist, and sure enough I found some. Discovering these is really fun. Some very quirky old games...

of course there's the "color match bullets" mechanic that Radiant Silvergun introduced and Ikaruga perfected, and can be seen in the fangame rRootage. Not sure if I really consider those part of this subgenre since in those, the puzzle mechanic drives the shmup, not the other way around (although if you score attack in ikaruga, it definitely becomes quite puzzle-y)

Calcolo looks like a strange game.

Calcolo looks like Dr. Mario, but then you can start shooting the pills coming in? I didn't see any kind of meter that appeared to unlock the ability to shoot, so why wouldn't you just always shoot?
