Aerannis
Crazy Glitch on new Windows 10 machine
This game looks like it's right up my alley, but Windows 10 is choking on it. The screen keeps going still, and then I manage to get it moving again by changing the focus to another program and then back again a few times. Never seen anything this weird. Please help?

Okay, if I don't try to run it in fullscreen, it works for a little while. Really like the style. But I take the dare and shoot, and then my friend turns into a little black blob, and then the screen goes ultra-pixelated. Like, worse than the 256 x 192 I used to have on my color computer in the 80s. Curiouser and curiouser. I also can no longer make anything out, and the controller doesn't seem to do much anymore.

Does your PC have a built-in video card? A lot of PC manufacturers cheap out on those and uh, they suck.

Damn, could you post some screenshots of this? I don't think anyone else has ever reported anything similar to your problem. I honestly have no clue what it could be.
Yes, I'll post something soon--complicated here at the moment, so thanks for your patience. No, my brand new ASUS machine has an Nvidia 950M, not on-board graphics. :)
Here's a second shot, so you can see how it's animating:

Thanks for thinking about this!
Also, when I have it on fullscreen, the screen doesn't update normally. If I Alt-Tab back and forth, I get to see stills of how the game's trying to update, so I guess there's some relation to the slowdown problem someone else has had? I'm pretty sure it's not about power, as my machine handles pretty much any game I throw at it at full (or near full) settings. :)

Wow, that's crazy. The only thing I could imagine is that there's some issue with the graphics card for some reason. Maybe look into updating your graphics card drivers and see if that fixes it? Because some others had issues (generally the game just crashed) and that seemed to work every time.

Right when the opening cutscene ends and the monster pops up, a shader is invoked. On systems that don't support pixel shaders or have ancient drivers (generally computers from 2008 or earlier), the game crashes long before that when it detects that a shader will be run at some point. What it looks like to me is that your hardware seems to recognize that the shader should execute and that it should be all fine and good, but during that process something screws up. This could be due to faulty hardware (if other games run fine, then it's unlikely) or it could just be due to screwy drivers, which could be something Microsoft messed up in Windows 10.

According to these ( https://www.love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=80681&p=187523 , http://betanews.com/2015/07/26/windows-10s-automatic-updates-for-nvidia-drivers-could-break-your-computer/ , http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/07/27/windows-10-automatic-update-security-problems/ ), Windows 10 can maybe mess with your drivers.

Installing this update would probably fix it: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/84891/en-us

Although some comments in that previous article said manual driver updates can break Windows 10.

As much as I hate to say it, it doesn't seem there's anything I can do and it very likely seems to be a driver issue that came about as a result of an automatic update from Microsoft.
Well, I appreciate that you've looked into this. I've got a very new, very mainstream Windows 10 machine. An ASUS 501UX with an Nvidia 950M graphics card. All drivers up-to-date and working on every other game I've tried (quite often to the highest settings).

Guess it was not to be. Looks like a fun game, and I appreciate that you're the sort of developer who pays attention to user experience. I come away with the feeling that this is a problem with compatibility between this particular engine ("Love"?) and Windows 10. Hope I get to play your next game. :)
Peredur, you aren't the only one having this issue; I can report that I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Our specs are similar; I am currently running Win 10 64 bit with DirectX 12.0 and NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 970M. I have recently redownloaded the game itself, and Steam has verified the cache. Not sure what the issue is, but I'm having a similar issue with the games Overture and Zombie Party.

Thanks, DeluxeTux!

Hopefully, any and all data we can provide them will bring this closer to resolution.

Oddly, Overture seems to work fine on my machine. (Don't have Zombie Party.) Not sure what it all means.... :)

If other games are causing problems, then it's very likely some sort of driver issue due to Windows 10. I don't have Windows 10 installed on anything so I can't really test myself, but Windows 10 updates seem to be messing with graphics drivers for some.

I have no clue whether this would work, but here's someone's solution for graphical glitches in another game on W10: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=36003767&postcount=15

Maybe try that and see if it helps anything?

If it helps, I am running Aerannis just fine on my Windows 10 machine (upgraded from 7, not a fresh install) but I am using an AMD GPU (Radeon R7 260X 2GB) with an older beta driver. From the peeps in this thread it sounds more like an Nvidia issue. :jess:
So, I tried changing the priority of the program to high. Unfortunately, no change. I tried "realtime" too. Thanks, all, for your thoughts!
