Good things:
- no input delay at all
Bad things:
- shield controller works on app, and on steam menu while streaming, but seems all messed up in game, and the "configure controller" option in steam doesn't load (for messed up I mean that apart from the movements, most buttons are disabled or bound wrong). However Steam recognized the presense of the controller, and let me name it.. it just works badly only in streaming games
- it may be because of the steam controller, but if I connect the Xbox One S controller, it just does not work while streaming (it does on steam link app menu)
- I had the impression that the graphic quality was lower than I'm used to while streaming the game, but I must double check this.. higher compression maybe?
- the app interface crashed more than a couple of times, but never while streaming at least
- audio was only stereo, not 5.1 (but sometimes the Shield messes this up, so I want to try again)
Not sure why it would work then randomly stop working after having my phone recharge.
So, in my bedroom it won't even find my PC, I have to bring it closer to my computer for it to locate it. Once I do that, I bring it into my bedroom and while it "works" it's incredibly choppy and laggy, it isn't playable. I have the Steam Link hardware that works fine in my bedroom however. I'm connecting through wifi one room away from my router (the PC is wired to the router).
I tried using a wireless XB1 controller, it pairs with my chromebook but the app does not read it. I tried to plug it in and it crashed my chromebook. I then tried to use a PS4 controller, it does not work, most of the buttons do nothing, the way it is mapped is just way off and selecting things with the dpad makes it go beserk.
I have the app fullscreened and when I start it I get the app in fullscreen and then a quarter of the app in the corner of my screen, I have to minimize the app and enlarge it at which point it becomes "normal".
I was very excited for this and I recognize it's still in beta but my experience tonight has been pretty bad. I thought because I have a steam link that works well in my bedroom that streaming to my chromebook in my bedroom would be a safe expectation. The controller issues may be out of your hands and may be on the chromebook hardware but the ps4 and XB1 controllers are likely the most widely used and for neither to work is disappointing.
I hope my feedback has been helpful, feel free to follow up with any questions!
1) The controller works in the Steam Link app as it should, but when I got in game in Skyrim the controller behaved as a mouse instead of an Xbox Controller. The analog sticks moved the mouse cursor around the screen and the ABXY buttons did nothing.
2) In game, the Xbox button returns to the Android home screen instead of bringing up Steam.
I know this is topic is for Android but seriously.... Please add Roku support! I know Roku is not Android....
Still has Bluetooth and such and is very popular, please consider it!
Also like the other poster said.... Either add in the Steam Android app or the Steam Link app an option to use the Steam Controller and other Controllers with other games on Android. ;)
Keep up the great work!
One thing that I do find troublesome, though, is that the app automatically changes the active screen captured to whichever monitor the mouse is currently in. I have a 3-montior setup, and moving between monitors sends the current active screen to the app. No clicks or changing apps required - just simple mouse cursos movement to a different monitor. If I switch between montiors too quickly, then I lose connection since the app can't keep up. My desktop is connected via ethernet, so my phone is the only device on wi-fi.
I do like having the ability to be able to capture multiple-monitors easily, but I would also like an option to be able to limit capture to a designated monitor. This way I can either 1) do things in the background on another montor without interrupting the stream, or 2) work as usual on my other two monitors while letting others stream via the third monitor.
I know that technically the idea is to stream the game you are actively playing. But, come on, general desktop streaming is a very useful feature.
I don't think it's a good idea to designate mouse cursor position as the object defining what should be streamed.
