Steam Link beta build 400
We've just released a beta build of the Steam Link firmware.

To opt into the beta, go to system settings on the Steam Link

Changes:
  • Added experimental support for sharing a single USB device with the remote computer, using VirtualHere, which can be enabled in the system settings.

Ohh, I didn't expect this!

Glad to see a USB pass-through solution!

What is the intent of this feature?
mcd1992 3 Dec, 2015 @ 8:10pm
It acts as if the USB device was plugged directly into your host machine. So it should (in some situations) add support for headsets, microphones, steering wheels / flight sticks, and possibly the wireless XB-One controller.

Ahhh, that makes sense.

will this fix the non functional dpad issue we're having with the generic xbox 360 wireless adapters?

EDIT: installed the new build and set up the virtualhere software on host machine and still no dpad.

So if I'm understanding this correctly I need to install the server software on my host box which is Windows 10. I don't see a server installer for Windows on the Virtualhere website?

I would guess it would be integrated with the beta Steam client on the host

Nah, you should install the usb client on your gaming rig.

As long as the supported devices are low bandwidth, which they should be, it will work well. I'm responsible for a 1000+ user Virtual Desktop environment and have 7 years worth of experience running USB devices over a network.

Sounds great, but is this the same as usbip? As linux already has support for that and I am running linux on both sides (steamlink<->steamos) :-).
Ah, just looked it up. It's a proprietary protocol, which uses usbip on lo on the clientside to hook into the kernels usb hub. So it needs a proprietary userspace client. But there is a lot of platform support.

I tried it and work well, but just with 1 Controller.
The problem is, that VirtualHere is only free with 1 device. I tried to connect my 4 XBox 360Controllers and VirtualHere asked me for a license... and i recognized, if you connect your controller via VirtualHere, then you can't move the mouse anymore at the desktop, if you close big picture and want to stream the desktop.

slouken, thanks, sound was much better. But not until the end. Somewhere sound 3-4 failures in 10 minutes. Screen Latency of ~ 30ms.

I'm not sure what you mean by sound failures? Are you running wired or wireless?
