Steam Link

Steam Link

Valve, the first steam link was better, please improve android app or bring an updated steam box back.
Hi Valve,
maybe I'm alone in this but I think the following:
- the real steam link was finished without a similar replacement.
Steam link android even running on a shield is not the same thing.
Although we have 4k, the experience was much more fluid and seamless on the real steam link box, especially related to the controller:

- Controller buttons are bad, I get all the time sent to android menu if I dont make the correct combo to bring steam overlay (by the way, gameforce shortcuts while in game are better IMHO);
- Lack of rumble is bad and even if we can have it through VirtualHere, I cannot turn an android box with my controller or control it, except while gaming, meaning I am swapping and syncing controllers all the time. (In steam link app, I just needed to turn on my only game controller and everything would be controllable and working fine)...
- needless to say, going back to the android menu by mistake using a controller connected with virtual here and other player's controller connected as an android controller, brings the need to reconnect virtual here controller when going back to the game, sometimes losing the control mapping, swapping players, etc...

Well in fact this are my major complains... controls.... but they are a lot in my experience...
I bring my friends home (that are usually skeptical about steam link lol compared to consoles) to play and we are always with controller issues....
I am thinking in going back to HD using my classic steam link box as now I have a confusing to use experience.
As a suggestion, you could deliver an android box of yourselves with controller and rumble support(like the shield..they have rumble) or just have a steam link classic box with 4k support...
Anyway is my preferred way of gaming, I've sold all my consoles...but I'm not sure you should have killed a product without having a proper replacement to it... but guess I'm not inside the profit and sales numbers...

Thanks and best

I thought you could make your own physical Steam Links now by loading the software onto an ARM device or the like.

Raspberry Pi can't output 4K.

For 4K streaming the options are building a HTPC and using In-Home Streaming with the Steam desktop client, or grabbing an android based TV box that's 4K capable.

Hey, i never opted for beta, oO

I found steam link had many options that we need it to in full release, but it degraded its self over time, the app does not degrade ever, but however?

The more updates being pushed the worst it handles compared to the box from day 1, oO

Have yet to test over a tv app, though, oO

But?

My android app allows 4k steam link streaming, but my tv does not... Oo

The phone creates that res? I dunno?

But the tv requires that res? I dunno...

Confused, oO

PS? My phone is not 4k capable, but supports a sample 4k screen, oO

Whatever that means, oO

What are you confused about? To get a 4k picture both the source device and the display need to support it. The Steam Link hardware does not. The Steam Link android app does (as long as the device it's installed on does as well). Steam Link for Raspberry Pi does not. The Steam Link Samsung TV app does.
