~Television Information~
Samsung 55" Class KS8000 4K SUHD TV
(model code: UN55KS8000FXZA)
Software version: 1169
- The app automatically sets the television to the "game mode" special viewing mode. It would be nice if the user could select which mode they want. The video quality comes across as cheap looking in game mode, especially if the user isn't streaming games in particular with Steam Link and doesn't mind minimal lag.
- The volume levels are in unison with the PC, which creates an echo effect with the sound coming from both the television and the PC speakers. Turning the volume down on the PC turns the volume down on the television. So its either a choice of echo or mute/low volume. Turning the television speakers up to near maximum is inconvenient and also very worrisome if I did happen to forget to turn the volume down after leaving Steam Link (bye bye hearing).
- Noticed a very distracting mouse cursor in the middle of the screen if I had to use the keyboard and then back to the controller connected to the television. (Fallout 4 & GTA 5, for example)
+ Didn't experience any noticeable lag, which is nice as I have a modest internet setup.
+ Linking the computer and television was effortless and straight forward.
+ Controls were responsive.
What controller did you use? Is it wired connected or bluetooth?
Quality is really great but I got some input lag issues with DS4 wireless
Now just need to wait for Xbox One controller support. Super excited about this and cannot wait to play my Steam games on the big screen.
Question for folks:
The Xbox One controller that comes with the Xbox One does this work with Steam Link normally?
Actually, I just needed to wait a bit and it worked out fine!
Windows firewall has been turned off completely, I've enabled full network sharing on my PC. The TV has been updated to the latest software (1180) and I've deleted and re-installed the app, as well as hard reset the TV over 10 times.
The app always starts, finds my PC, I select the PC and am prompted to enter the PIN from the TV onto my PC. After entering the pin on my PC, the TV just sits there with the pin code up for however long until I decide to close the app. I've tried roughly 10-15 different times now to get it paired and believe the app is faulty.
My TV is a USA region KS8000 once again, and I have had 0 luck with pairing the two devices even though both Steam and the app open and run fine.
I just tested the app and there are some points I like to comment here. I own a Samsung UE49KS7000 TV.
First, I had to change the region to US since I live in Europe, so I got the AS415 error commented here.
After trying many things to fix it and getting some other errors (AS400 I remember...) finally I was able to install the app. I turned off the TV and waited for a while (1 minute or so), turned on and then the app installed correctly, so turn off your TV and wait if you have this AS4xx errors.
The app recognized my PC with no problems (I use an Ethernet wired connection) and the Steam Big Picture Mode appeared on TV.
I tried a USB wired XBOX 360 controller, with some games and no problems at all, works perfect with no lag at all. I also tried WIRELESS XBOX 360 controllers with an UNOFFICIAL receiver (works fine in PC, but needs drivers) and I noticed a very annoying lag (about a second) in the analog sticks and a little less on digitals, but lag after all.
The fact is that the simple act of connecting the unnoficial wireless receiver to TV causes lag on the USB wired 360 controller, that works perfect alone without other controllers.
Maybe this is caused by my low quality and cheap wireless receiver, don't know if it happens with the microsoft original. Maybe someone could tell? I'm very interested in this question as long as I can't play decently with wireless 360 controllers and I only own 1 USB wired controller.
Besides that, you can minimize Steam Big Picture and execute every single program or game in your PC, so It has many uses, It's great.
