Test Steam streaming on Samsung TV!
Samsung is adding Steam Link functionality directly to their latest line of Smart TVs.
If you are in the United States and have a 2016 or 2017 Samsung UHD TV, we'd like to invite you to help test the Steam Link App, now available as a free beta from the Samsung Smart Hub.

The App uses the same streaming technology as Valve's Steam Link, allowing users to play their favorite games, and even spectate VR games on the HTC Vive, wherever they watch TV.

During the beta, playback of 1080p video at 60 FPS and support for the Steam Controller are included. For worldwide release later this summer, support for streaming 4K resolutions and additional controllers will be added.

Note: Streaming to the TV requires a Steam Controller and a high-quality network, at least 5GHz. A wired network is strongly recommended.

Please let us know how this is working for you and post feedback and questions on the Steam Link discussion forum:

Do you guys have input lag problem playing with the DS4 via bluetooth??

This definitely doesn't look as sharp as the Nvidia Shield's Game Streaming, which also let's you run Steam in big screen mode.

Can some of you please tell me the exact model TV you have? I have (2) 2016 models. A 55JS6500 and a 55JS7000. I have steam, samsung profile and the TV set to USA. I have all of them completely upgraded. Yet, I still do not see the Steam app anywhere on the Smart Hub. I have looked at literally EVERY SINGLE APP. It is no where to be found. The only place I can find it is on Samsungs websites, on a browser. There is no where to "push" it to any of my devices.

Please, how do I find this? :steamsad:

I tried it out, got the app installed on my 2016 model 65" UHD Samsung, and it found my PC on the network and connected to it, BUT would not stream. It just kept saying "Network Test 0%" and would not proceed past that.

Hello I have a Samsung 4k TVand would love to test for you!

Grand idea, and I played with the app. for a little bit. Once the inconveniences are removed with a full released polish, I'll greatly enjoy this! Until then, I came across some very jarring issues with the beta. I used a controller just to test things around. I didn't feel up to moving and connecting my keyboard and mouse to the One Connect box.

~Television Information~
Samsung 55" Class KS8000 4K SUHD TV
(model code: UN55KS8000FXZA)
Software version: 1169

- The app automatically sets the television to the "game mode" special viewing mode. It would be nice if the user could select which mode they want. The video quality comes across as cheap looking in game mode, especially if the user isn't streaming games in particular with Steam Link and doesn't mind minimal lag.

- The volume levels are in unison with the PC, which creates an echo effect with the sound coming from both the television and the PC speakers. Turning the volume down on the PC turns the volume down on the television. So its either a choice of echo or mute/low volume. Turning the television speakers up to near maximum is inconvenient and also very worrisome if I did happen to forget to turn the volume down after leaving Steam Link (bye bye hearing).

- Noticed a very distracting mouse cursor in the middle of the screen if I had to use the keyboard and then back to the controller connected to the television. (Fallout 4 & GTA 5, for example)

+ Didn't experience any noticeable lag, which is nice as I have a modest internet setup.

+ Linking the computer and television was effortless and straight forward.

+ Controls were responsive.

What controller did you use? Is it wired connected or bluetooth?

Quality is really great but I got some input lag issues with DS4 wireless

tested with a Samsung UN65KS800DFXZA, installed fine, network test OK, connected to the PC....

Now just need to wait for Xbox One controller support. Super excited about this and cannot wait to play my Steam games on the big screen.

Question for folks:
The Xbox One controller that comes with the Xbox One does this work with Steam Link normally?

Last night the app was working perfectly, but when I went to use it this morning, it would not detect my PC. I was trying to set up a new PC to use with the Steam Link Beta app, but it would not detect any of my PCs. The ones that I had already added showed as "Offline," but when I would select to stream from them anyway, the stream began perfectly. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app, restarting my PC, and restarting my network, but it still will not work.

I had that also and I somehow made it to work by:

1. Revert to your factory region
2. Turn off your tv
3. Wait ~10s
4. Turn on tv, go to samsung store and try to download any app, if there is info that store is currently reloading go back to live tv and try again in a bit.
5. if you are able to download apps from your regions change region to US again.
6. Repeat steps 2-4.
7. If everything is working search "steam" in samsung store.
8. Hopefully you should be able to download and use the steam link app.

Good luck!

Actually, I just needed to wait a bit and it worked out fine!

I am using the xbox 360 wireless adapter and I have 2 wireless xbox controllers, When only one is connected the controls were completely fine with almost no noticeable input lag. however when I connect 2 controllers to my tv the controls become very unresponsive making every game unplayable. The lag persists until I disconnect one of the controllers which immediately reduces the lag.

I own a samsung KS8000 and have had no luck what so ever with the steam link app. I've tried a wired connection and 5GHz wireless with no luck. I've attempted the regular steam version as well as the steam beta version for my PC.

Windows firewall has been turned off completely, I've enabled full network sharing on my PC. The TV has been updated to the latest software (1180) and I've deleted and re-installed the app, as well as hard reset the TV over 10 times.

The app always starts, finds my PC, I select the PC and am prompted to enter the PIN from the TV onto my PC. After entering the pin on my PC, the TV just sits there with the pin code up for however long until I decide to close the app. I've tried roughly 10-15 different times now to get it paired and believe the app is faulty.

My TV is a USA region KS8000 once again, and I have had 0 luck with pairing the two devices even though both Steam and the app open and run fine.

Steam link app seems to work fine, more or less, although framerate instantly tanks without a wired connection. XB1 controller also still doesn't work properly on PC games at all, not sure if it's Steam's fault or Microsoft. But the app seems great and is easy to set up.

Does anyone know a fix to the app not detecting the pc anymore? It was working fine 2 days ago, but when I started it up again it showed my PC as offline so I tried connecting to it but nothing happened. So I removed my PC and tried adding a new one but it gave me the message "No host computers found"

Hi,

I just tested the app and there are some points I like to comment here. I own a Samsung UE49KS7000 TV.

First, I had to change the region to US since I live in Europe, so I got the AS415 error commented here.

After trying many things to fix it and getting some other errors (AS400 I remember...) finally I was able to install the app. I turned off the TV and waited for a while (1 minute or so), turned on and then the app installed correctly, so turn off your TV and wait if you have this AS4xx errors.

The app recognized my PC with no problems (I use an Ethernet wired connection) and the Steam Big Picture Mode appeared on TV.

I tried a USB wired XBOX 360 controller, with some games and no problems at all, works perfect with no lag at all. I also tried WIRELESS XBOX 360 controllers with an UNOFFICIAL receiver (works fine in PC, but needs drivers) and I noticed a very annoying lag (about a second) in the analog sticks and a little less on digitals, but lag after all.

The fact is that the simple act of connecting the unnoficial wireless receiver to TV causes lag on the USB wired 360 controller, that works perfect alone without other controllers.

Maybe this is caused by my low quality and cheap wireless receiver, don't know if it happens with the microsoft original. Maybe someone could tell? I'm very interested in this question as long as I can't play decently with wireless 360 controllers and I only own 1 USB wired controller.

Besides that, you can minimize Steam Big Picture and execute every single program or game in your PC, so It has many uses, It's great.
