Of Wolf and Woman quest - help!
I'm trying to progress through the new quest from the 3.83 beta and cannot figure out how to make the wolf eat the bread. I have tried:
-Throwing bread at the wolf while it was calm
-Throwing bread at the wolf while it was enraged
-

acking bread onto the wolf while it was unable to run or fight
-Leaving bread next to it with bait (squirrel carcass, raw and dried meats)
-Baiting a large deadfall trap with bread and the above baits
Is there some secret to this that I'm missing? Do wolves just hate barley bread in particular and refuse to eat it? Somebody please help me, I am losing my mind!

Have you tried to give it commands? You can command some animals, particularly to "eat". Refer to your key command list on how to give orders to animals. That might work.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just tried this and had no luck, the wolf doesn't count as a pet or companion.

Yea, I'm drawing a blank then. Good luck, I hope some one can answer.

Did some more testing, killing the wolf didn't get any unique dialog from anyone in the quest village. It might not even be the quest wolf, but it's alone and I can't find any other wolves in the area so that seems unlikely. It might just be bugged, in which case I'll make a bug report in a couple of days.

I got it to work today! Not sure if it got fixed between beta and now, but I chucked the bread at the wolf, which just irritated it and got me bitten. However, next I left the bread near the wolf with a bear bone on the same square. I couldn't find man nor wolf after that, so I left and returned to the original village.

Curiously, on my way I also encountered a lost woodsman who wanted an escort to the nearest village -- just a guy on the map the usual way. Not sure if this was related, but...

When I spoke to the lady again, she was overjoyed and told me her man had returned and even remembered being a wolf. My reward was a cloth that will apparently prevent bears from attacking me.

Did the wolf vanish or did you have to walk around for a while? I'm trying this with reindeer bones but even if I leave for a day the wolf just ends up moving away from the bones and bread.

Never mind, the reindeer bones worked! You just need to get them within an overmap tile of the wolf, I think, thank you so much!

How did you guys find the wolf? I'm roaming around the quest related area but there's no wolf.

I zoomed in on a mountain around the middle of the quest area and followed the wolf's howling. You should be able to hear it from roughly one overmap tile away, you'll get a notification in the text box about it. Otherwise zoom in at different points in the quest zone and hopefully you'll find it!

I already finished the quest but yeah, this is how to do it.

Agreed: it is not easy to find, but start from the middle and start walking around. Listen for a howl. I've generally heard it when I'm zoomed in, and it tells you what direction it's in.

how do you force the wolf to eat the bread? every time I throw my bread at the wolf, they just tilt their head in confusion. After that I try to lure the wolf by placing badger bone and bread on the same tile. The wolf then vanishes and I don't know if it's working or not.

nevermind guys, after the wolf vanished, I comeback to the village quest and the woman tell me his lover is back, and I got a special item for repelling bears.

I just finished this one:
I went to the area, found the wolf by following the howls, and not nowing better, I just threw flatbread at the wolf. It "looked confused" but neverattacked me, so I keept throwing. After a while, it ran away. When I followed it, the tracks just ended.
Keept looking in the area for 2 days not finding anything, before returning to the "maiden" and she was happy that her man was back.

Sooo... Throwing bread might work.
