Version 2.7.1 in beta (incl. Linux). Feedback is welcome!
I've uploaded version 2.7.1 as a beta. You can opt in to test this new version by right clicking The Spatials in the Library game list, selecting Properties, and selecting the "beta" option in the drop down. This is a public beta so no code is required, leave the code field blank.

NOTE: the beta for 2.7.x has ended and the Linux port has been promoted to stable. Please use the stable branch, it contains important hotfixes.

Here's the changelog for this version:

## Release notes for 2.7.1

- Fixed crash in campaign mission 27 caused by the new scripting engine being more strict.

## Release notes for 2.7.0

- The Linux port is now ready for testing.

- Two new enemy families can now appear in bounty missions: the Pest and the Cucurbians.

- Craved products are again a hard requirement. Both officers and visitors will refuse to consume products that are not in their list of cravings if those products are needed to satisfy a vital.

- It is now possible to set a global limit for stock in the stats screen for manufactured products. All the factories that are then toggled to obey this stock limit will automatically stop creating manufacturing tasks when the stock reaches or surpasses the limit. Use this new system to cut excess production and free resources and officers for other tasks.

- Mouse over objects and visitors in the station to get some basic info about them.

- Objects in the station now use the isometric map grid for hit testing when using the info tool. Combined with the new mouse over info label it is now possible to select objects unambiguously.

- Recall won't be casted if there's no officers in stasis.

- Fix sidebar overlapping info popups in the inventory.

- The Contracts panel now gives more information: the amounts of (potentially) gained XP and the current levels of stock in the station inventory for rewarded resources.

- Enemies will always display their health bar when aggroed, even if they haven't been damaged yet.

- Windows: tentative fix for alt-tab issues.

- Faster scripting engine.

Feedback is welcome!

Exciting times!

Quick question, do we need to start new games to properly test/enjoy this new version? Or will existing saves work just as well?

Version 2.7.0 can read saves from version 2.5.x, so you can continue from a previous game. All the listed features are available both for new games and when loading an old save. Saves done in 2.7.0 cannot be read in 2.5.x tho, so keep it in mind in you want to downgrade while we test this version in the beta branch.

If save compatibility is broken at some point I will put a very big warning about it, rest assured.

Love, love, love the global limiter on manufacturing units! So far everything seems to be working well for me. Thanks for the update!

The update is excellent! The global limit on manufacturing is just what was needed to automate the boring, fiddly parts of the economy. The other tweaks and fixes are also welcome.

I'm going to start telling friends about this game! It's got a great level of polish, especially in terms of the UI, and I love the "do whatever you feel like whenever!" feel of switching back and forth between Contracts, Exploration and station-building.

And I really dig the art style. There is very satisfying about watching my stylized team of Federation-wannabes psychotically rampaging (ahem! "acting as cultural ambassadors") through the galaxy.

Great stuff all around.

Global limit didn't seem to take effect. I see the default limit for all products is 100, however upon loading up my old game into the beta and watching my crew, they continued to produce items well beyond the limit. Is it possible the logic is broken if the product they're making is already past the threshold?

Did you toggle your factories to obey the global limit? The default behavior is to use the old queue system. Also when the limit is just reached, or if there's a task still being advertised by the factory, the game will let that finish, even if it surpasses the limit.

No, I hadn't -- thanks! I didn't realize that needed to be switched... going to spend the next half hour clicking them all, now ;)

P.S.: it says "This factory is waiting for the stock of _____ to drop below the globat limit set in the Stats screen." Fairly sure it should be "global".

My dumb fingers, again. One day I will hire a copywriter.

Great news ! I'll play as soon as I can, seems only good news. Love that the cravings are gaining in importance, will make the game harder and accentuate the gestion gameplay. The factory limit is just great.

You're doing a great work with The Spatials, thank you !

Just tried to install the Linux Version (Current version of Kubuntu) and it doesn't install a single file on my system.

Did you opt into the beta? For now the Linux build is only available if you enable the beta branch in the game properties. I will make v2.7 the stable branch at some point next week and then the Linux build will be installed normally.

Thank you. That seemed to fix my issue.

Version 2.7 is now in the stable branch and downloaded by default. You can switch back to the stable branch, I will post again when we have a new beta to test. Thanks everybody for the feedback!
