ARK: Need "COOKED" Content
Tried running ARK but received error message:

"The global shader cache file 'C:/Program Files (86)/Steam/steamapps/common/ARK/Engine/GlobalShaderCache-PCD3D_SM4.bin' is missing.

You're running a version of the application built to load COOKED content only, however no COOKED contend was found. Consider cooking content for this build, or build and run the UNCOOKED version of the application instead."

I checked the "Set Launch Options..." on all of my games and there was nothing in the commandline parameters for Steam. Please advise.

Directly from the Devs

I've addressed this elsewhere, but I want to respond to you directly because it's important.

This error happens because you are using a GPU which does not support DirectX11. We are extremely sure that this is what the issue is, so much so that we are looking into finding a way to pack the ShaderModel4 content into the application as soon as we can.

Up-to-date GPUs use ShaderModel5, which is the DX11 implementation of the ShaderModel system, and GPUs which do NOT support ShaderModel5 will almost certainly have issues launching the game.

I cannot give an ETA on when we can cook with ShaderModel4 content, but we ARE looking into a way to do it, and will update you all as soon as we have more information.

So what does this mean? Do we need new graphic cards and if so what kind because I have windows 7 with an Intel(R) Core Processor with Intel hd graphics and I have directX 11 but not sure if there compatible since I get this message also. Please help me!! Plus can u recommend graphic cards for me I have ASUS CG5275.
theUltimate:

The issue you are having is that you are using a computer with an iGPU or Integrated video card. Technically, you do not have a video card, you have a video chipset that's built into your CPU. These are lower powered cards designed for daily use as they use almost no power and thus, do not heat up the computer. These cards can not run ARK as no Intel GPU is supported.

Now, if you are using a laptop, then yes, you would have to buy a new PC and in that case, I would recommend a full desktop.

However, if this computer is a desktop, then no, you may not need a new PC, you just need to upgrade. How much you need to upgrade really depends on your overall system and how much of it can be saved / ported to the new rig.

Ok thanks, so I need a new graphics card and everything should be fine? Any u have in mind that would work well for me? Price don't wanna be way over board but something that will get the job done. I have an ASUS CG5275 PC i5 Core / 3.2 GHz

theUltimate: Personally, I can recommend a R9 280x. You can get those below 200€ and I'm running the game on medium settings 1920*1200 without any problems. Plus with the optimisation coming in, you might actually manage to get high settings.
I read alot of complaints on the forum about nVidia graphics cards performing poorly, so if that's too expensive for you, maybe get a R9 270 (generally AMD is a little cheaper on this end of the scale)

Either way I'd get a dedicated graphics card.

Same issue i have a nvidia 8800 gtx i checked it says i have directx 11 but my card can't support it :( was really looking forward to this game
Exaggerator Jun 3, 2015 @ 2:08am
8800gtx does NOT support directx 11. While it might be installed (therefore you are "having" it), it does not mean your graphics card can actually use it.
You'd have to upgrade your GPU for the game (only exception would be if the devs decided to support dx10 as well)

its nothing to do with DX11, its a file missing problem from the developers uploading the wrong file to our download servers. . . just a waiting game for them to sort the mirrow download sites out
SpartanTV Jun 3, 2015 @ 2:19am
look on forum, there is an EXACT copy of this post on there, with 200+comments, all discussing this very thing. .

@Spartan: then please look more carefully:

Yes, it SOMETIMES can be fixed by getting the correct files as SOMETIMES the download isn't working perfectly. Yet that is the minority and if you're already having a GPU that is not supporting DX11, I suspect your chances are slim at least.

@Midgar: Sorry to tell you, but no, it is unable to support DX11. Starting from the 300 series nVidia added support for DX11. Check the official statement above though, it looks like it might actually work for DX10 if the devs find the time to look into it. Please don't rely on it though, as the game was not intended to go without DX11 or better.
