if i breed gigas and kill the babys do i also get a heart or do you only get a heart when you kill wild gigas

No, creature parts (such as Spino Sails, Argentavis talons, etc.) are only obtained by killing wild version. It's kinda weird, but these items are actually "held" as if it's in their inventory, which is why you might not automatically get those items while riding a dino with 50% weight or more.

Gigas do drop hearts 100% of the time, you might have to search its inventory when dead to get the heart. DO NOT KO IT! Like I said earlier, it overwrites their previous inventory.

If playing single player, hibernation can mean you never see a giga on the island your entire playthrough. Thats one reason I disable hibernation as it both can cause issues getting giga hearts as well as leads to parts of arks being absolutely dead of life.

Clear wild dino command might also cause a giga to spawn somewhere in the world.

If you don't want to change arks or console, and are truly, truly desperate you can get a giga heart from the Tek cave giga
