if you do this the only futuristic part of the game is one fanatsy creature that never existed (araneo).
I think of it as a giant Eugenics experiment to train humans to survive in hostile environments possibly with a view to sending out Colony Ships to other star systems. Just my fanciful rationale.
Just keep in mind ark was never intended to be just primitive, but there plenty of ways to get as close to it as you can.
the game first of all never forces you to use anything in a specific way, you want to use 20 wolfs in a boss? sure you wanna use 20 mech robots gainst a titan? i meen sure,
i'd recommend you 1 thing if you hate the tech so much, do not play any other map than crystal isle, the island, ragnarok and scortched earth, cause abberation has tech, extinction has a lot of tech,
the story and how the ark works is fully regarding tech, if you don't like this i'd advice even avoiding The Island, you'll hate the boss even more
It's mainly Aberration, Extinction, and Genesis as the backstory (which is sci-fi) progresses through them.
The only really techy things you'll encounter not by choice are the obelisks, the tek dinos. and the caves. If you can look past the aesthetic parts, and you ignore the tek dinos, then you can certainly ignore all the "in the wild" high-tech stuff, to my knowledge.
Should you? Well, if you're on a PvP server, you will get destroyed without high-tech equipment. Bringing a Dilo to a gun fight, etc. If you plan to play singleplayer, then it obviously doesn't matter. I can't speak to PvE, since I don't have much experience.
Really, it's up to how much you're willing to ignore, and where you're planning to play.
