Best Base Locations for Ragnarok PVE
I am looking for somewhere to set up a base and have looked elsewhere but nothing really fits my desires... Me and 2 other players are looking at working together to make a base somewhere, but we have just started on Ragnarok and don't know where to go. We are looking for somewhere with a lot of vital resources near by, such as metal, wood, fibre, thatch and stone, as well as hopefully stuff like obsidian, oil, hide and chitin somewhere close too. We need a nice flat area with access to water for storage or water mounts and lots of space for ground and flying mounts. We ideally would like to be somewhere not too far from most places, especially wyverns, as we are aiming to tame some quite early on. Does anyone know any locations that would meet most of these requirements ? Travel is not too much of an issue as I was given a level 300 ish bear, but ideally want somewhere towards the North part of the map. Co ordinates and access descriptions would be extremely useful, thanks in advance...

After trying different locations on my own server I decided on 67,34. It's not one of the "obvious" locations, it's not super flat but it's a cool area and good access to all the good stuff.

There's tons of beaver dams nearby for pearls and paste, on the beach just to the south is a massive berry patch on steroids, giving you tons of berries (one run in my bronto gives me 15k narcs, and that's with 2x gathering). There's an oil vein close by and once you have access to an argentavis it's not far to the OP metal/crystal cave in the desert. Lots of stuff to kill as well and it's just outside the Giga roaming grounds.

There are alot of spots available to you on rag. Its one of the most base and resource friendly maps in the game. West of viking bay to the blue obelisk and also just west of the blue obelisk afford many inlets and areas that provide suitable access to resources you desire.

Metal is in many places in that area. Obviously wood stone thatch etc too. East of viking bay by a short trip are small islands with pearls in shallows strewn all over and as well obsidian spawns in spots there. Additionally back between the bay and the blue obelisk, there is a rock dome area and if you dont build there(ie preventing resource spawns), obsidian has a few spawn nodes on the top of it(have to fly to get to it.).

Your only distant area would be wyverns.

So, are you suggesting that viking bay could be a good setup location ? Because I was going to go and set up in the pirate cave, until I found out that someone has claimed all if it as their base and blocked off all entrance/exit points with dino gates...

The underwater cave by blue ob i think is the best. Hidden down in the depths just have to watch out for alphas and squids.

How do i get there? And do u have co ords for it or entrance ?

Lair of the Mask I believe (that underwater cave) is located at 10,5* 24,0*.
It's a good place being large and lacking spawns, what some occasional mosa, plesio or tuso spawning near entrance, but nothing behegate won't solve. Only downside (aside from lack of certain nodes like trees and such) is that you'll need aquatic pet to access it safely.

EDIT: There's a seaweed growing around the entrance so it can be difficult to find at first.

Not really, after you place tek transmitter or teleporter you will not need to swim around. I used to own the cave on 3 different servers. If you are going to enclose it i would use metal since the alpha mosa and squid can destroy stone gates fairly easy. It is a great place to tame mosa/plesi and tuso also. I used to drag them in there and shoot them with the rifle to get them down pretty quick.

I agree, it's great location to tame larger water creatures, and metal gate is definitely recommended. As for difficulties to get in, I was talking time before the tek as I came an conclusion OP does not have access to it.

It may not be the best locations but rebuilding one of the many collapsed run down structures can be a lot of fun and make great bases. And they are all over the map.

Ok thanks, what is the best mount for getting into that cave ? Is it better to go and live there later on in game?

I'd suggest waiting until later in the game when you have access to metal parts and have crafted a few preferably metal behegate to block the entrance. You can get in with a decent level Ichty but I recommend Megalodon or Sarco so they can take some damage and duke it out. Whatever you choose, avoid Cnidaria (medusas) though, they can stunlock just about anything with few exceptions.

Other problems early on is that getting land dinos there is quite hard and fliers near impossible, since you have not access to tek teleporter. You can, however, carry fertilized eggs there and hatch them with ease.

Since there aren't any spawns in the cave, there is no food sources, farming is not a big problem since there's plenty of room but since it's a cave you don't get green house boost.

Ok, thank you, what do you mean medusas ? Didn't even know they existed... and do you mean taming or encountering ?
Sensei Feb 22, 2019 @ 7:57am
Cnidaria cannot be tamed. They are a source of bio toxin that's handy later in the game, however as mentioned before, they can cause large amounts of torpor and pawn in swarms so it's generally advised to avoid them in earlier states. They have relatively large aggroradius but are very slow, outswimmed by just about anything o avoidance should not be a problem. They have low health too.

Ok, is it worth taming a turtle, as I am early game, and trying to set up a base in the cave already ?

Turtle will do but I recommend getting as high level as possible as it's not the fastest so it should be able to take few hits. On the plus side, it can walk on land so it won't be vulnerable to predators that wander in.

You have to remember though, you're likely to need to return above to collect mats that cave does not have, so the stronger the pet you obtain easier it gets.
