I was playing with a friend this afternoon and we came across an unusually wide crossroads. He's got another screen up too.

Update 9.0c:

- updated the PL/CZ/RU translations
- Orb of Empathy now mentions that it works with Orb of the Stone
- Cultists no longer do nothing when at distance < 4
- fixed attacking Ghosts over Trees
- fixed Sharks moving against current
- fixed the requirements displayed in the description of R'Lyeh and Burial Grounds
- fixed monster fight messages ("X attacks Y")
- fixed the game not registering game over after using up orbs
- fixed the Hyperstone quest log
- fixed enabling/disabling the shmup mode
- unlock messages for Trollheim / Orb of the Sword / Elemental Plains (actually added in the previous update)
- fixed treasure count displayed on collection of mirror shards, elemental shards, elemental gems, and ancient jewelry
- fixed misleading messages when attacking Dragons or Krakens
- energy sword now destroys vines, for consistency
- energy sword now can destroy the Shadow for one turn
- Air Elemental didn't blow when it did not move
- player did not break weak branches
- fixed the unnecessary messages "You cannot target that close!" etc. displayed when having orbs
- troll nests in Trollheim should no longer appear too close to Great Walls
- greatly reduced the frequency of prize orbs in the Burial Grounds (e.g. Flash appeared way too often)
- previously trying to turn off the hardcore mode after game over did nothing -- now it starts a new non-hardcore game
- the hardcore turn-based multiplayer mode should work now
- fixed some achievement names and descriptions, updated the PL/CZ/RU translations

Game closes after playing during a few seconds, this didn't happen last time I played.

Edit: So, I start playing and after 40 secs (approximately) the game closes. It happens every single time.

Usuze: this is usually fixed when you restart Steam.

tricosahedron: Thanks! Still some bugs though...

Update 9.0d:
- mirror shards were collected twice
- prize mirrors did not appear in the Crossroads and some other lands
- mine marking is now documented
- added achievement "heptagonal knight"
- more minor updates to translations
- Baby Tortoises are no longer left behind when playing in Chaos mode

After I jumped over the table in Camelot (heptagonal mode), there was a *huge* slowdown (game paused for a moment each time I tried to move to another cell), and after a few turns the game crashed without any kind of error message.

Orbs of Winter seem to be secendary in the Dragon Chasms, yet when hovering over them it says useless in Dragon Chasms.

In 9.0e the bugs reported by tricosahedron should be fixed (slowdown was because of Knights making sure that they don't get electrocuted, also another useless expensive call was removed, and crash was caused by Pikemen moving on the edge of the visible area). Also Orb of Winter is now correctly categorized in Dragon Chasms.

Newest patch yields best performance ever on my laptop. I'm getting 40 - 53 fps in lands without animated elements.

I seem to have experienced something similar to what Tricosahedron experienced in Camelot in the heptagonal mode, except there was no initial slow down, the "pausing" when moving didn't happen until some time later, and an error message was displayed in the end.
It started happening at some point after getting chased away by enemies and having to find my way back to where I was in the table. Once I made it back, every time I moved to a cell I hadn't already visited, the game would seem to pause for a couple of seconds, but moving to cells I had already visited was fine. Eventually, I moved to another unvisited cell and the game just crashed, displaying a Runtime Error with the message "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I am excited to play with the new features. Currently I haven't got to any because I usually play on Android.


The Prince was summoned to me by the Orb Of Love in LoEM, and fell down when AFAICT he should not have had to do so (and should have run to the horizon instead). Possibly he chose to fight a Viking instead of running; I am not sure. I could be misremembering and he was actually surrounded or stunned.


Separately, I had an idea for the keyboard controls. I might find them easier to use if the game disabled the 1 or 2 directions that are not displayed on-screen (i.e. the 1 or 2 most ambiguous directions). Also if the arrow positions were nudged so that e.g. the North arrow was a bit closer to being directly North of you (etc). At the moment I have a small delay in recognising which direction each arrow is.

The local high scores table incorrectly displays the real time lengths of my games. I'm having a hell of a time getting a screenshot because of how that menu closes after any keypress, but the run in question is correctly timestamped in hyperrogue.log --

Total wealth: 320
Total enemies killed: 845

but on the table is displayed as having gone 182m:20s?
Many of my runs are displayed incorrectly, it seems. This run is listed as 177m:42s.

Total enemies killed: 1361

Grimoires are still incorrectly giving messages as if they'd been picked up and added to the total, even when they're too far out of the temple to add to your score.

Love the new features! The Minefield feels so much better now, with obvious mines being clearly marked. Now I can see at a glance what the level is like. And the new Bomberbird eggs look great - are you going to reskin more items?

... oh, right, bug report. A Fire Cultist in Ry'leh threw fireballs at me and both my Bomberbird allies in the same turn. The message log was:

The Fire Cultist throws fire at you!
The Cultist throws fire at the Tame Bomberbird!
The Cultist throws fire at the Tame Bomberbird!
