Air Grenadier trying to board low flying ship causes freezes

I was testing a ship with a ceiling of 37 meters, against 4 ships with 96 Air Grenadiers total
The game runs smoothly if I don't move my ship and let them board, however if I reverse my ship so they can't board directly they start grappling to the ground then the game freezes, to the point windows say the program stopped responding.
For comparison I can have 360 Air Dragoon or Air Marines boarding the same ship with 0 performance drop at speed 3
My CPU usage never exceeded 40% even when it frozen and it is just an i5-4460
