And yet... you don't have to pay a single red cent to enjoy the game.
hello my team Dec 8, 2015 @ 12:59am
what are you poor or something?
TeamChevy86 Dec 8, 2015 @ 12:59am
It's FREE. You fool. Don't spend anything if you don't want to
And really, if you break down what you get in those packs vs what they're actually worth in time spent playing... It's a good deal

Just adding up all their "mech packs" available on their site it adds up to close to $1000. Its insane.

Well no one in their right mind will actually buy every mech pack. It's unneccessary.
Get thru the cadet bonus, find your style, buy your mechs.. Kill more reds. Easy

all mechs you can buy for in game money - for free and cost of you time.
500$ skins only for big fans.
less QQ more Pew-Pew.

Honestly 90% of the mechs that come in those packs (which really are on the more expensive side), you can easily get in game with a modest amount of work.

The only mechs that are behind the paywall are the hero mechs which are real money only, but those are almost never the best variant of the mech. As an example in community warfare where players take 4 mechs in to a match, you pretty much never want to take any hero mechs if you are looking for optimal performance.

Also that being said, while the expensive packs imply that PGI is greedy, i would like to point out that they often have very generous events where they give out a ton of cbills even MC (the real money currency in the game). Just in the past month or so i think that you could have gotten 3000MC just by doing mostly easy to do events. And on top of that they had a 50% off sale on hero mechs so you could buy pretty much any hero mech just using that 3000MC you got for free (any light and up to heavy mech, excluding assaults where you came about 300-500MC short with just those few events).

I agree. Crazy pricing.

Agree with Kushko strongly on this one. i have done exactly the same. Most of my mech bays , hero mechs and colours have been gained via events free MC and CW faction ranking.. You dont have to pay if you dont want too.

So it will take me hours, upon hours, upon hours, upon hours, to get the mechs I want then, because I dont want to drop $100 to get a pack of mechs?

In fact just starting the game you will get the cadet bonus (i think its around 13mil bonus over 25 matches) as well as the normal income from those 25 matches which should bring you at around 18-20mil AND the tutorial awards which will bring you to around 25mil. With just that starter boost you can get any mech you want and then some.

But yes, after that it will slow down a bit. Just recently we had a reward increase as well so on top of all the starter cbill bonuses (which us veterans did not have and we still managed to survive :p) its even easier to grind out your first mechs.

As long as you invest the starter cbill boost wisely (get mechs that will be enjoyable for your style of play) you should never feel like you HAVE TO spend hours upon hours grinding for more mechs. They should just come naturally as you play the game for fun.

That's what Free to play entitles, yes. Are you unfamiliar with how they work? Either you pay, to well, play... Or play for free and work for it.
Honestly, it's a game. Sales and events are regular. Events hand out all kinds of goodies. Wait for a good sale if you decide to drop money on anything
**sorry if I sound rude. Just aggravated with the amount of hate on here.
