Linking MWO to Steam
I have the non-Steam install of MWO on my PC. Is there a way to link it to my Steam without re-downloading the 9gb client?

Try copying your installation of MWO into the steam folder, if you are lucky it will acknowledge the files and skip downloading them.

That of course doesn't always work, but its worth a try.

What usually causes transferring the files to fail is if you had started the download and stopped/paused it.

There will be a folder in the Steam\steamapps\downloading folder with the files that started to download. The folder will just be a number (342200 to be exact). Delete folder 342200 after you have moved your installation, restart steam and click download for MWO. It should patch a small file and be finished. This is assuming your client is up to date.

If your non-steam client is not up to date steam will correct this and download what ever is missing. In some cases it starts the download from scratch.

The file path where you should place your mechwarrior folder is Steam\steamapps\common. This is assuming your steam install has not been altered and is using the default install structure.

Did you link the standalone client into steam or do you have the steam client?

WoW.... There is some really bad advice given here...

It's very very simple...

From the top menus click on "Games".. Then from the dropdown click on add non steam game to my library.. Then a new window opens with all of your installed programs.. Simply select the game you wish to add and it will add it..

Just make sure it isn't a bootlegged game that isn't properly blocked by your firewall, or your Steam account could get banned if it gets detected by Steam...

That may not be the hairline integration the OP was looking for, but it's up to him to clarify if he wants true integration or just a launch button.

in the past, running the game w/ launcher through steam was a pain to accomplish and caused more issues than it solved.

my advice is to install through steam.

benefits: no portal, downloads patches automatically and can be setup on a schedule so its not happening while your gaming, a mouse icon next to your name in the forums? i mean the first 2 should be awesome benefits by themselves.

One way of looking at it.. Another would be that at least he didn't just make a new thread on the same matter.. (which is hella lot more annoying)...
