Hey Pakrat811,

There was a critical bug in the most recent update that unfortunately affected a small number of users with certain graphics cards. It made your graphics card reset and crashed the game after a number of turns, and it sounds like you had the worst case of it. Thanks to everyone sending in crash reports on this, we were able to create a fix for it last night and have just deployed it in hotfix V1.0.0.2 along with several other crash fixes.

Please let me know if this has solved your issue, and please keep sending in those crash reports any time the game crashes.

Cheers,

Hey Pakrat,

I appreciate that it's frustrating to have your game crashing all the time, and if I can help I will. I've received your most recent crash reports and had another look through all of the ones you submitted in the past few days, and unfortunately it looks like you're the only person who is reporting these crashes. They're happening in various parts of the code that load data onto the graphics card, and are caused by your graphics device resetting for an unknown reason.

I've researched this error (DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED) extensively and found that it's not usually caused by a problem in the game code but is an internal DirectX driver crash. It can happen on a wide range of games and can be caused by anything from a corrupted graphics card driver to faulty hardware.

In order to help you with this problem and see if there's a fix I can apply on my end, I'll need to know a little bit more about your PC's specs. It would help me greatly if you could send me a DxDiag report using the following steps:

  • Press Start and R to open the Run dialog
  • Type in "DxDiag" and hit OK to open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool
  • Click the "Save all information" button and save the text file somewhere on your PC
  • Email that file to brendan@brainandnerd.com and I'll take a thorough look through it to see if I can identify the problem.

    Cheers,

Hi Pakrat,

Of course I want to help if I can! As I explained above, I researched these crashes and discovered that the most likely cause is a fault with your graphics card or directx drivers. If you google for "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" you'll find people reporting this crash on dozens of different games from different companies all the way from indie to AAA.

There are a number of solutions to try:
- Reinstall your DirectX drivers from https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35
- Download and install the latest version of your graphics card drivers and software.
- This may sound odd, but check if your hard drive is full. A full hard drive will cause paging file problems that can cause this crash.
- This fix that works for the crash in Battlefield may work: https://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_4/comments/1xzzn4/tdrdelay_10_fixed_my_crashes_since_last_patch/
- This forum user identified that there's a bitcoin mining virus that can cause this problem: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/535346/geforce-drivers/constant-timeout-detection-and-recovery-fix-warning/
- Check if your graphics card is overclocked, and if so return it to standard settings.
- Check if your graphics card is overheating, and if so underclock it slightly.

If none of that works, some info on your PC specs could be useful in diagnosing the fault. You can get that info to me by following the bullet point instructions in the previous post.

Hey Pakrat,

I put a new diagnostic suite into the latest build, if that's you sending in the crash reports right now then I may have a fix for you. According to the report, you have a GeForce 940MX but it's offline, so the built-in Intel HD 620 chip may be trying to run the game.

This video someone made explains how you can tell your PC to use the GeForce card by default, which may fix the problem: https://youtu.be/mTbbG7QBDig?t=103

Please let me know if this solves the issue!
