Door codes?

How am I supposed to deciper the code for a safehouse door that looks like this?

Am I missing something? Is there something written somewhere in my notebook or somewhere that gives me the code? Whenever I check youtube it shows WiiU gameplay and the same crappy indecipherable "code" on their main screen. Even with the message icon appearing it looks the same but nothing is written down or anything.

You need to progress further in the main story to unlock a tool/upgrade to decipher raven codes.

Well that's annoying. Nowhere do they explain this and it's at the perfect location to actually have a save point. Just wasted 30minutes of my time looking around for nothing. :/

whats even worse. When you get the upgrade. You'll forget where half the secrets are. I just gave up

Once scanned, you see them on your map as orange dots. Not much to remember here.
