Please Wait - Now Loading
For some reason when I try launching the game it takes up 8% of my CPU and slowly animates a ring in the center, with the text "Please Wait - Now Loading". And it just sits there for several minutes.

I have a 360 controller connected, a GTX 980 video card, and Win 7 64-bit if that's any help.

Same problem here, on a somewhat different setup[pastebin.com].

I notice a frame rate counter down the lower right of the window. When it first opens, for an instant this is ~61-62, then it drops down to exactly 3.90 and stays locked on that figure.

It doesn't seem to matter whether I force the use of my Intel HD Graphics 4600 card, or my NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M card.

On my first attempt at launching RAM usage went up to about 11mb and stayed there. After some minutes the ring simply stopped moving, though CPU usage still see-sawed around 17-18%.

Sometimes, RAM usage goes up and the game eventually makes it to the main menu. Seems random as to how quickly it'll load on a given attempt, or if it'll even make it there at all. The frame rate never goes back up, though the music plays ok once the menu appears.

In the options menu, toggling the resolution, screen mode, anti-aliasing, texture filtering, v-sync and effect frequency settings makes no difference.

Other games from the same pulbisher seem ok (even when running at the same time as this one).

I've sent an email to the developers, hopefully I get a response. It seems strange that this issue is happening and unreported a couple months after release. I enjoy some of their other games. I'd hate to have to use a refund on this one.

This would be the first time it's gone on sale, I believe.

I'd be interested to know what number you're getting down the bottom of the window, by the way.

3.90 for me as well. I thought that was the version number, but I do see now that it starts higher momentarily before it drops down.

I have the same problem. My setup is similar to Bomb Bloke's, except I'm running Windows 7 instead.

Don't suppose your email got a reply, oldbushie? A "we'll look into it" or something?
kumabushi Jun 17, 2015 @ 10:36am
I did get a reply, but it wasn't very useful as turning off my antivirus didn't help. I'll try re-replying since it's been a couple days.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble playing ManaCollect. We have tried to replicate the error on various setups but haven't been able to see similar results.

I've made a new build that creates a log file of the game's various loading phases. I'd like the players encountering this problem to download the build at http://dl.fruitbatfactory.com/ManaCollectDebugLog170615.zip and launch it at ManaCollect installation folder. As the game is loading (this might be a bit slower with the logging), the build writes information to a file called debug.txt in the same folder - please mail this file to support@fruitbatfactory.com so that we can take a better look at where things go wrong.

Thanks for the response! I emailed my log file along with my observations. It definitely seems like a loop is running somewhere with no pause between iterations, thus eating the CPU.
Bomb Bloke Jun 17, 2015 @ 8:35pm
I'm not so sure it's runaway-CPU-usage slowing the game down - our cores aren't the same, and yet we're getting the exact same frame rate. I assume there's an FPS-limiter in the code somewhere; if so, an executable with it disabled would make it pretty obvious whether it's at fault.

Unfortunately my log[pastebin.com] doesn't seem to reveal much of interest, other then an apparent failure to load a "Steam API", and about five minutes to finish the loading process. I've emailed it in anyway.

I've also tried toggling Steam Community off, and running as admin, but that doesn't seem to make any difference to the game (or to the logged messages).

oldbushie and The Burning Spear, have you guys been able to get to the main menu yet? If not, what's the longest you've waited? I recommend trying for at least a quarter hour, if you haven't reached it thus far. Try messing around in the options menu if you get there, though bear in mind the changes don't apply until you exit back to the title screen.

The Burning Spear, are you getting the same frame rate as oldbushie and I?

I was able to get to the main menu after waiting 4 minutes for all resources to load. The Steam API error goes away if I backup the original exe and rename the debug one to the original, then launch the game throug hteh Steam shortcut. So it can't be API failing to load, as it loads fine for me when I do that.

I also get 3.90 and it also loads into the main menu in about 4 minutes. I tried changing the settings, but it didn't seem to help.

I mailed my log to the devs so hopefully they can fix the problem.

The last executable I got via email fixed the problem I was having (VSync was misbehaving). When will the fix be pushed to Steam?
Bomb Bloke Jun 23, 2015 @ 3:49pm
My email never got a reply, so it's good to hear a fix is nearly available. :)

Sorry about that! We got several logs at once and I thought we replied to all, but guess we missed you. Based on the test builds we sent out, I think we have the "long load time" +3.90 FPS problem fixed, just needs a bit more work to make a build that everyone can use.
