demo wont launch

fresh install. have verified installed files. steam does *something* when the play button is pressed.. but it doesn't even finish changing the tile to "running" before it crashes out.

Patch Notes:

- Fixed bugs
- Small rebalancing
- Made a few quality-of-life improvements
- Added more options in the settings

New Feature:

You can now see the garbage inside the hole. If it doesn't appear, check your settings to enable it. There may be a conflict with old save files. Hopefully this new feature doesn't not slow down the game.

No Save in Demo?

Is there really no save in the demo? I was just past the 3rd earthquake and needed to sleep. I went back to the main menu and can't load the saving that was happening in the Settings menu. Am I missing something?
