Unofficial Patch or I.A.A.M mod?

So there appear to be two main fan-made developments/modifications of the game. There's the "Unofficial Patch", which appears to fix some things, mostly text-related, and the I.A.A.M mod, which appears to add a lot more content.

I'm not sure if they're compatible with each other. Anyone played both? If one had to choose one, which would it be?
