adom.exe has stopped working
Three times in a row, when I alt-tabbed from the game window.

This is NOT what should be frustrating. Come on! I've seen every version since gamma 18, and this is the buggiest so far!

Update: four crashes. Every time the game loses focus and stays like that more than a minute (like when I open Steam to moan more) it happens
Epic Fail Guy Nov 17, 2015 @ 12:38pm
Happens to me too, all the time when I have the game without focus for a while.

There are a couple of reports in the bug forum:

http://www.adom.de/forums/project.php?issueid=3988

http://www.adom.de/forums/project.php?issueid=3998

Please upvote and/or comment the reports to attract more attention from the devs. I'm sure they'll address this.

I also provided a negative review to attract their attention. It's a Steam game now, so they sould pay attention to Steam feedback
I don't know if it's crashing but I can't alt tab without it at least seeming to lock up.

I'm not saying it doesn't need to be fixed, but I would stop alt tabbing if I were you.

Here's how I can reliably crash it though:

Launch the program with it already being in full screen.
Go to the menu, set windowed, hit apply.
Set full screen hit apply.
Crash.

Game can crash if you start in full, then go to windowed and back to full through the options menu. I also just reproduced this now by launching the program full-screen, and then hitting Alt+Enter twice to change it to windowed and back to full-screen again. It crashed straight away. (Win7 Ultimate and Win10)

The ADOM team are blindingly good with this sort of thing, and have an entire forum dedicated to fixes and bug reports. Not that you don't have every right to review badly (and it's a good way to bring the matter up too!) but joining the forums is the most direct way.

Remember the game is still technically in beta and being changed and updated as we speak. They're working on the crash issues right now.

Well it's not. I wouldn't complain if it was 'Early Access'.

Well, I must say, it's impressive you've been playing this with this bug since Gamma 18.
Since that was a release from 1999, I think? :)

I know you don't mean the really old Gammas, though, the Alpha 0.99. Gamma versions.

Kind of surprised this game has issues alt-tabbing, but it should be fixed. I can't imagine they'd not fix it.
Be patient though.
It took Thomas 5 years to fix some bugs in the older versions. :) Or however long the time between 0.99 Gamma 14 and 1.0.0 was.
I can only hope he's sped up his fixing speed. :)

Seriously though, I'm fairly certain this bug will be fixed soon.
It still isn't fully released though, he's been working on it for 20 years.

No he hasn't, he had a 9 year hiatus, which makes it about 11 years (which is still a lot). However, I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. He might have worked on it for an incredible amount of time, but if it takes such a huge time to fix things (in your example 5 years), that's not a good sign.

Well, fair enough. 20 years off and on. :)
I'm not sure how many major bugs there were in the older versions though.
And besides, he has a lot more people than just him working on this new version, so any bugs in it are going to be fixed faster.

The bugs introduced in 1.0.0 were fixed extremely quickly by him back when it finally came out.

yeah my game froze after alt tabbing....

and my game was finally going well.. hopefully i had a autosave

ADOM is now properly funded through crowdfunding and purchases and is being worked on by a fairly large indie game team full-time. Before the last year or so this game was being created in one person's free time as a personal interest, around their day job, on and off, and along with various other side projects. I don't think it's fair to say the early years were representational of Thomas' full capability.

On top of that, many of these bugs are new and are due to the implementation of tons of new functionality (tilesets, music, full screen mode, Steam adherence). Going by recent performance they'll be fixed as fast as they appear.
