Q: The game has three nations. What does it mean to choose one of them? What if I want to change later? Can I be nationless?
Your nation mates are your natural teammates that you will adventure with and fight alongside. They are the ones you can always rely on when the warhorns sound.

If you wish to play with your friends, it is best if you all play in the same nation from the start.

Changing nations before any of your characters reach level 50 is easy and can be done in the character select screen. After that, nation changes are allowed within some parameters with Nation Change Scrolls for a fee.

The Mercenary recruiter appears only at times when a nation is badly outmatched and will transport you for free to that nation permanently to help them regain their competitive edge.

It is not possible to play outside of a nation.

Q: Do I need to no-life this game to be competitive, do events, or unlock stuff?
Simply playing the game actively and doing what you enjoy will enable you to become competitive in whatever way you wish. You can see and feel progression by unlocking access to higher-tier equipment over time and new recipes without feeling like you have to grind for days to get past some kind of artificial chokepoint. Check with the combat trainer regularly to see how you fare against him or try some duels to see how you measure up in combat.

It’s easy to log into Gloria Victis for 45 minutes to an hour and quickly join events and activities that have clear meanings and benefits and are fun to do.

Parties are truly “pop in, pop out” because they are not size, level, or build specific. This helps keep everyone in the action and prevents a lot of gatekeeping that plagues many MMOs.

Q: Is Gloria Victis a PvP-only game?
It is not a PvP-only game, but it is a PvP-focused game. There are a huge amount of PvE events, crafting, and life skills, but they take place in the context of open-world territory control, player generated content and PvP. Events can be ambushed and interrupted by enemies. Crafters and gatherers need to watch the map carefully to judge if enemies are likely around. Many PvP players are also crafters too.

Q: What is the purpose of territory control in Gloria Victis?
Territory control gives your whole nation access to resources, crafting workshops, event locations, and respawns. Controlling territory denies your enemies access to the same. Capturing territory is how you earn Glory and currency to purchase special recipes and items. Holding more territory generates buffs for the whole nation including crafters and more PvP oriented players.

Q: What kind of combat builds are there? Is there stealth or magic?
Freely distribute Attribute points and Abilities points to create unique builds. Customize further by selecting what type of armor, shields, and weapons to equip. While there are no classes, most builds fall into one of the following archetypes: archer, medic, shieldman, melee cavalry, archer cavalry, or bruiser.

There is no magic. Stealth is simply crouching to reduce your visibility to enemies and line of sight based.

Q: Does Gloria Victis have a Player Loot System?
Players can choose their preferred level of risk by playing in the massive non-loot area or going to the Loot Zone. The non-loot area is an excellent place to fight, quest, gather, and craft. It is full of PvP too, but players can fight without risking losing their equipment. Players can remain in the non-loot zone and are never required to play in the Loot Zone.

When players are ready, they can venture into the more dangerous Loot Zone in the center of the map to gain more rewards, experience the thrill of risk, and climb higher in the rankings. The rarest and most valuable resources and events are located in the Loot Zone.

We have a unique PARTIAL LOOT system in the Loot Zone:
  1. Only one person may loot a body.
  2. The looter has a short timer and limited points to work with. Each loot action takes a set amount of time and points.
  3. Only one piece of equipment may be looted in total.
  4. The looter can be interrupted by heroic allies who can protect players from being looted at all.
There is no “full loot” in Gloria Victis at any time.

Q: So if I love to focus on crafting, gathering, or farming, is Gloria Victis the game for me?
Crafters and gatherers are the souls of guilds and nations because they feed, buff, and equip everyone. The highest quality gear is made by crafters, not dropped from NPCs. Food and wood rot and equipment durability is lost over time, so demand is constant. While farming and crafting can be done in safer areas, higher risk areas further from the capital and in the center of the map offer better resources, recipes, higher tier crafting stations, and better quality farmland. Players can level up all life skills and crafting professions on one character. There are nearly 1,000 recipes to learn, as well as tricks of the trade that only come with time. Use the Market or set up a Personal Stall to sell or distribute wares.

Q: Do I need to have the best equipment and top level to be competitive?
There are three parts to being competitive: player skill, stats, and equipment. Player skill is the dominant factor and heavily outweighs stats and equipment.

Leveling up certainly provides the abilities, HP, and stamina.

Equipping better gear can give some confidence, but it guarantees nothing.

Skill comes with time practicing directional combat and timing while fighting against other players or the combat trainer NPC in the arena. A low-level, scrappy looking peasant can take down a warrior with the very best equipment due to their skill and reflexes. Additionally, mass open world combat has a whole different feel and skill set than dueling in the 1v1 arena.

Q: Do I need to do in-game PvE quests if I prefer to level up another way?
There is a series of PvE quests in a safe area to help players get familiar with the game and get to level 60 within a few hours. But, you don’t need to do them if you don’t want to. It does not affect any other progression. Earn experience and items for everything you do in Gloria Victis. Level up in 1v1 arena, do open world events, upgrade city structures, join the Valley of Death Tournaments, or tag along with a larger party capturing territory. With a large range of non-loot territory available, early exploration and discovery is low risk.

Q: How long does it take to level up?
Though there are 100 levels, it's just a matter of a few hours to reach level 60. Reaching 100 is more of an achievement. To level quickly, stay busy! Everything you do earns you XP. Play often, join lots of sieges and events, and participate in 1v1 arenas.

Q: Is the map persistent? Are there seasonal wipes of any kind?
The map is persistent 24 hours a day. Flags will be captured and lost all day depending on player activity. The territory control may look radically different in the morning than it does later in the day. There are seasons of approximately 2 months for various leaderboards. However, seasons do not affect your character progression or the map.

Q: Is there a party finder or grouping tool? Can I solo?
Yes, you can use the Party Finder, or simply register for events as they pop up on your screen, and you will be teleported to those events. Solo play is viable and can be quite fun, as it requires full confidence in your ability to survive in unpredictable circumstances. Some events cannot be soloed, but it’s easy to join parties to complete events and go back to soloing.

Q: Does Gloria Victis have any kind of base building, guild castles, or housing?
There are two forms of building: Upgrading and Freebuilding.

UPGRADING: All of the capturable locations can be upgraded, but their layout is static. Locations start with no walls or buildings and can be upgraded through 6 levels to strong stone fortifications with amenities including crafting workshops and guardhouses. Warfare is brutal, so repairs and upgrades are necessary after a siege.

FREE BUILDING: On Guild Isles, guilds are free to create their own castle designs and build structures as they see fit. This will be implemented after launch along with Guild castle warfare (State of War) and is our top priority.

PLAYER HOUSING is not a feature at this time.

Q: How are the nations’ populations balanced? Can a nation lose all its territory?
We want players to choose what nation they play for, and where and when they choose to fight. But, we recognize that it’s not fun to be overrun by larger or more skilled armies or players on a regular basis.

Game mechanics use live information, as well as population and performance trends of each nation, to provide buffs and incentives for underperforming nations to have a chance to regroup, retreat, and rally.

A nation can lose all its territory except its capital and its nearby home fort. There are a variety of debuffs and problems an aggressive opponent on such a conquest endures, so the further the attacker extends into enemy homelands, the more difficult their conquest becomes.

Gloria Victis relies on player generated content. If you want your land back, you’re gonna have to rally up and take it.

Some content is instanced and based on evenly matched teams, so there is always something to do, and somewhere a marauding army cannot win by numbers alone.

Q: New Beginning Servers. What are they?
Because Gloria Victis has been in Early Access for a few years, and we promised to not wipe player accounts or inventories unless something critical happened (and luckily, nothing critical happened), we decided that creating New Beginning servers at launch is the best solution. This gives players a clean slate and a chance to experience the rush of launch on a level playing field.

Players will be able to choose between the existing Legacy Servers and the New Beginning Servers anytime.

On the Legacy servers, we will not wipe any progress, and we will keep all characters and inventories untouched.

On the New beginning servers, we will create a different, fresh database allowing everyone to have a new start. Existing characters will not be able to play on New Beginning servers.

Current players do not need to create any additional account to play on either server type, but you will need to create a new character if you wish to play on the New Beginning servers.

Our game has a cross-server database. This gives players the opportunity to trade between servers, play on other servers of the same type (Legacy or New Beginning) to support underdog nations or do cross-server events like the Valley of Death Tournament.

New Beginning Servers and Legacy Servers do have some shared databases including:
  • Character names
  • Guild names
  • Alliances names
  • Unlocked skins and heraldry symbols
  • Ambers

This will allow us to add new servers or merge New Beginning Servers and Legacy Servers databases seamlessly based on population needs.

IMPORTANT: Only owned skins are shared. Skins that are in "bought" tab or in the inventory as an item will not be shared.

Q: How many servers will be there on launch?
The Legacy Servers and New Beginning Servers will be hosted in the same regions we have now: North America, Europe, and South-East Asia.

To ensure the best user experience possible, we will open additional New Beginning Servers like “North America 2” or “Europe 3” as needed.

At this moment we are not planning to establish servers in additional regions. Our experience showed that people preferred to play on more populated servers rather than a closer, regional server with a lower population. Gloria Victis is designed so that players should be able to play competitively even with a ping of around 200ms.

Q: How are you dealing with problems such as toxicity and griefing which are common in online games? What about bots?
We believe games can be competitive and full of PvP and action without being toxic. We have a variety of tools and mechanics to help with this:
  • a large non-loot zone
  • clearly marked loot zones with limited looting
  • no corpse runs
  • no chat between nations
  • anti-camping mechanics
  • safe and varied respawns
  • muting and reporting troublesome players
  • diminishing returns on repeated kills or territory captures

We believe bots are detrimental to the game’s economy and playerbase, and so far our multifaceted and robust efforts to prevent bots and cheaters have been very successful.

Q: What is the payment model? What does the Supporter Shop offer?
Gloria Victis is a buy to play game with a Supporter Shop. Because Gloria Victis has skill-based combat, and the sense of personal achievement is important, pay to win shop undermines these ideals. We want to make sure that the wallet never determines the outcome of a fight. The supporter shop offers cosmetic skins that do not affect your stats in any way. It also offers account services such as name changes, extra character slots and some convenience items Almost all of the account services and convenience items are also earnable in the game with Contribution Points. Skins and other items bought on the shop can be sold in the game for gold.

Q: When is State of War going to return?
State of War is guild castle warfare. It is a feature that is being reworked to provide fairer and more satisfying fights on an epic scale. After we settle down from launch and recover from scaling up the game, this is the top priority. We want to implement it as soon as possible. This will happen in phases. First, we will add Guild Isles and Free Building. Then we will add the State of War.
