STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

[OBSOLETE] Music Restoration (Mysteries of the Sith still needs it!)
NOTE: Mysteries of the Sith still needs the music patch! It has not yet been updated. To get the MotS music patch, consult this thread.

EDIT: This used to hold a patch that restores music to Jedi Knight, as it was missing from the Steam release, but it seems sometime in 2016 they actually updated it to add music. So, this patch is no longer needed.

If you already have the patch, there's no harm done really, the official patch works in practically the same way using more or less the same code, so you shoudn't need to worry about uninstalling or deleting it.

I also noticed the Steam version also now ships with a .sdb database, which means even on Windows 10 the game works out of the box with no patches, at least for me. However, to get hardware acceleration mode working, I recommend getting a program called DgVoodoo2 and extracting the dlls from the MS folder into the game directory.
Also, capping the game's framerate to 47 will guarantee the best framerate; at values above it the game oddly caps itself to 30fps.

For those I've helped get back into this game, I'm glad to have helped. Good luck!

Thank you ! Too exhausted to try it today. I'll give it a go tomorrow morning. Thank you for the awesome work ! Btw Tarvis, do you consider developping a patch for windows 7, similar to the one you did for W8 ? (About the weird framerate issues)

Edit : This should be a sticky

Edit 2 : When the winamp window pops up on yout first launch, dont press the top-right cross to close it or the soundtrack won't play AT ALL. Just tick the "never ask me again" box, press skip and everything will work just fine

I'd like to, but the ddraw.dll it uses doesn't work on Windows 7. I'm looking into it. Until then setting its Vsync to 60 is your best bet.

This looks brilliant. Gonna boot into good'ol... not so safe... XP and give it a try!

Edit*
Will this patch affect the unofficial patch from the jkhub?

Edit**
Just tested this patch! Not sure how it will affect the unnoficial patched .exe, but it definitely works vanilla :) . Awesome!

Yeah, it shouldn't matter what version of JK.EXE you're using. All it's doing is remapping a few winmm.dll calls to _inmm.dll instead.

So, did Winamp bother you on the first run or no? I'd like to know if I was able to fix that

Ah, good to know :)

Err, well I mean, it's a bit of an annoyance, but it's nothing big really. As long as it doesn't pop up more than once, it's nbd.

I'm sure it'd make a much nicer first impression for some people to not have it pop up, though.

That aside, this is great! One less piece of software needed on my 16gb XP install xD

Works perfectly! Can we sticky this topic?

Also, not to sound greedy, but any plans to do this for "Mysteries of the Sith" as well?

Thanks for the patch!! Perfect timing for the day I bought it :)

Yeah, it will be simple. Simpler than this, in fact, as there's merely 1 disk! I just wanted to see how it worked for everybody first. Seems like it works just fine.

I'll have it ready in a couple hours.

EDIT: Here's the thing though...it really seems to me that the music assigned in MotS does not really fit the levels, and one level even references a track that doesn't exist, and additionally only about half the tracks are even used! I'm torn between releasing it as it is or coming up with my own track order.

works perfectly even in linux with wine (it's better to do all steps in the bat file manually, since you have to use regedit someregfile.reg there). Only downside of winamp approach is that you have to close player after you finished playing.

travis, make a guide out of this please so
it statys easier for all to locate

Didn't work for me on win 7. Though Winamp is being an idiot and refuses to send its ♥♥♥♥ and... huh now it doesn't pop up anymore... *one reinstall of patch later*

OH HAI IT WORKS THANK YOU

Now I need to find a fix for those missing cutscenes on cd2...

Well, that explains why I have no ingame music. Didn't know that's a bug, since I only bought the game on sale last weekend ;)

I'll try your patch tomorrow and tell you if it worked. Thanks for creating it.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to fix that. On Windows I have it set to use a batch file to detect if JK.EXE isn't running anymore, and to close Winamp if it isn't. It's the WINAMP.BAT in the Music/Player folder. Perhaps the commands it uses aren't the same in WINE

If you can figure out a .sh for doing that for Linux, I'd be glad to include it

I've tried and I can't seem to make one. I think it's because I don't own the Steam version. Next time it goes on sale I'll pick it up.
Cheers Tarvis, this is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ feat and a half.
Just a quick question - if I currently have JK music running via the old fashioned _inmm exe with the paths to the mp3 folders and all that jazz...just to be clear all I have to do is un-patch my jk.exe by putting it on the _inmm exe again? At that point should I uninstall all traces of inmm on my PC and do a clean install of your patch?
