How is this game compared to ME1/2?
So since this is one of the old and good(as people say it) BW games, how does that game plays compared to Mass Effect 1 and 2? Is the combat turn-based or what?

The combat is turned based, but it's fast. It's not like South Park the Stick of Truth.

Personally, it is my favorite game of all time. It has about 30 hours of gameplay for me in a single play through, but I do everything by reflex since I've played this game countless times. There are different outcomes based upon conversation choices. I'd say it's better than Mass Effect 1 and definitely better than Mass Effect 2. It all depends on your taste for specific RPGs.

Combat turned based

My personal opinion....
*Mass Effect has better graphics

*KOTOR has better story and writing

*Mass Effect has much of it's game play based off the old KOTOR games

*If you dont mind older graphics, KOTOR is a tiny hair better then Mass effect

*I would HIGHLY recommend playing KOTOR if you never have before

*Make sure to look up and download the mods for KOTOR before playing

*Watch vids over on youtube to get a feel for KOTOR before buying

*KOTOR 1 & 2 are always in my top 10 best games of all times

Ok to clarify to some of the above comments, it is NOT turn based. Turn based implies that each character moves independently and one at a time. (think early final fantasy games) It is instead a continuous combat where you can select certain abilities and special attacks that have a cool down and "casting" time. A similar example would be WoW or Dragon Age. KOTOR is superior in story and character relations.

It is a turn based game. It isn't tradition turn based. BioWare themselves described the combat as "real time turn based" during their dev videos when they were making the game.

If your a fan of the Mass Effect series you'll most likely get into Kotor. The combat is a little slower but still satisfying and the story, music and atmosphere are some of the best ever done in an RPG. What a shame we never got a Kotor 3 but instead that silly ### swtor...sigh.

I posted a forum in KotOR general. BioWare is currently developing an untitled Star Wars game on the Frostbite3 engine. Could be a remake, a new Star Wars IP or a KotOR III. Let's hope.

I've been let down to many times to get my hopes up again haha. With the fan base that the Kotor series has it always amazes me that a 3rd one was never made?? Its like they don't want to make $. Maybe now that swtor is just a fading memory things can get back on track with a proper sequel... Kotor 3 running on Frostbite3 is like a lottery ticket waiting to be cashed in for whom ever developes it.
They were working on a KotOR III and had a lot of the environment finished back in the day. Then for some reason they quit development and out came SWTOR, which I personally love because I'm an MMO fan. So I'm just happy they're working on another game. It's BioWare and Star Wars so it'll more than likely be an RPG which is good enough for me. Even if it's not in the Old Republic era.

It is real-time turn based. There are rolls for attack and damage. You can pause it and set up your next few rounds, similar to baldurs gate. This game set up how Bioware uses a consequence system in ME without simply giving you the option of clicking red or blue for bad or good.

It is really important that the mechanics behind how the system works remain a mystery to avoid players trying to "game" or "cheat" the system. It's only when players are ignorant of the consequences of their actions can they truly make a free choice.

LOVE both. If you liked the leader aspect of ME, then you'll love Kotor. I'm a die hard Mass Effect fan, and I agree Kotor is better.

The battle system is a lot like FF12, minus the gambits and summoning.
The story branching is a lot like the ME series, but I honestly like the KotOR series MUCH MUCH more, despite the slightly slower gameplay.
The story feels like it's better written, the worlds and the atmosphere are amazing, your choices actually feel like they matter (Dark side has some ♥♥♥♥ed up ♥♥♥♥ man)
Never felt more like a Jedi in my life.

If you like RPG's in any form, you'll like this game.

You won't regret it. Someone else already said it but I'm a huge Mass Effect fan, and I was an even bigger KotOR fan before ME came out and I still think it's better than ME.

Combat is not as good as in Mass Effect. The story is fine but the presentation is pretty poor. This is a BioWare game so the level design is atrocious and you'll constantly shake your head when you'll see the landscapes of the different planets you go on. The worst is still Illum in Mass Effect tho. And obviously the game is not canon anymore so there's that if you care about it. In general it was fine when it came out but it's outdated on all aspects now.
