KOTOR on Windows 10 crash - help please
Here is a screenshot[onedrive.live.com] of KOTOR crashing on Windows 10 (the full version, not the tech preview). I have a Radeon R9 270X card.

NOTE: This isn't the Steam version. It's one that I pulled from a site, but I want to know if if the Steam version will work before I buy it. Anyone know what's causing this? Or, better yet, can anyone verify that the Steam version is indeed working on Windows 10 for this GPU?

Thanks.

so your pirated version of KOTOR doesn't work on Windows 10 and you want help with it?

Your R9 card is the problem. Disable Frame Buffer and Soft Shadows, then buy the game from Steam.

Um, nope. And I quote:

Thanks for actually reading my question before responding. I'll give that a try.
I have an issue with Kotor. I updated to Win10, I launch the game, and right before the title screen, the game crashes (btw, I bought it on steam, and I have a physical original copy =P =P) any ideas?
I play on a laptop, so my graphic card isn't much, but for a game like that is more than sufficient. The game worked well yesterday, before the update.

You probably need to update your graphic card drivers.
theres a host of issues and solutions for resolving compatability troubles with KOTOR. Read them all. Try them All.
Simply turn on Vertical syncro. Sorry for my english my actual game is in french so....
I updated the graphic card drivers and still crashes before title screen... I have to uninstall until a patch or something similar comes up...

Don't uninstall, just disable the Frame Buffer and Soft Shadows. It's some ancient Nvidia card tech that doesn't work on newer platforms. With that out of the way, time to have some fun... here's a piece of PC history you probably don't remember.

I think it was from before MS acquired Bungie and announced that Halo would be Xbox exclusive.
If anyone needs help, I've found a guide in the Steam Community Hub for this game.

I also had problem with KOTOR 1 in Win 10, but I only had to do, to run my game in compatibility mode (XP SP3), and now I've my game back. It is an original STEAM copy.
