Elaine Marley Threepwood is now a Disney Princess.
So, what to expect of the MonkeIsland IP now that Disney owns it?

I think it would make a good movie. Did Disney buy the computer game company too or was it just the movie biz?

Really? I don't think they'll make a movie on monkey island..

That reminds me.

Have you guys noticed how a lot of their animated female leads are "princesses?" Heck they have so many that Kingdom Hearts series has made them a big part of the overall plot (whole kidnap them business.)

They already did. Its called Pirates of the Caribbean! Before everyone goes off on me let me explain.

Numerous accounts show that Ron Gilbert based Monkey Island on the disney ride (Pirates of the Caribbean) and the book "On Stranger Tides"

It is also rumored that Ted Elliott was going to write a script for a Monkey Island movie before he ended up writing the script for Pirates of the Caribbean.

Ron Gilbert put it best with this quote:
"Pirates of the Caribbean is a rip-off of Monkey Island which is a rip-off of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride [at Disneyland theme parks]," Gilbert commented.

Basically it really comes full circle. I think that the ride and the game both played a role in getting the idea for this movie on the table and although I do not believe that the POTC movie is really the Monkey Island movie with a POTC title, I do believe that some elements were naturally infused into the movie as Ted Elliott was writing the script, something that he could not take from a ride.

And I agree with you, I also don't think they will make a future Monkey Island movie because since Disney now owns the rights. If they do make future movies all of them will be Pirates of the Caribbean movies. No one will want to watch another pirate movie with new characters.
