New Update in March!
I've decided to work on a new update for March that will bring some new features to the game. Hopefully you like them and maybe you have a few suggestions for them :)

Challenges
A lot of suggestions from the community were centered around a new challenge system that could be activated besides the regular game modes like Arcade Style. These challenges include (but are not limited to ;))
- Pistol / Shotgun / SMP only maps (only one Weapon type per Map)
- Only certain Enemy Types (for example "Lobotomy theme" gives ONLY Nurses and Doctors)
- Lights Out
- Rotten Only (for the masochists)
etc.

Challenges can be selected from the Host before opening a game and cannot be changed during gameplay.

Rubies
While playing a challenge, you will occasionally see Rubies drop from enemies. The drop rate will be determined by the difficulty you're playing on. These are a new "currency" that can be used to upgrade your new Ring Trinket.

New Ring Trinkets
Players can now get Ring Trinkets. These Trinkets can be found just like any other Trinket (Rank1,2 and 3), but they have a maximum level of 100+. They do not change your maximum player level, but instead they give a bonus that can be upgraded with Rubies (even on Rank 3). Each upgrade will increase the Trinket on a small scale, but it will add up quick the more Rubies you spend to upgrade it further.

The Rank for the Rings determines how many stats will be affected and how many Rubies are required to upgrade it.

New "Wildcard" Room Layouts
Traditionally, there are about 10 different layouts for each Location. On top of that, I will add "Wildcard" Room Layouts that are of no real type on its own but instead they can be found on any Location. For example rooms and hallways made of flesh or other substances or a mix of different layouts like an underground village. These layouts can be found in any location to give more gameplay variety.

Big Thanks to the Community!
If you have any suggestions for other challenges, Wildcard layouts, Ring Trinkets or anything, please post them here. I do have noticed the large suggestion thread from a while ago and this was the source for many of these ideas. Some other suggestions were currently not possible due to the amount of time they would require, but they were not overlooked.

I also want to mention that this will not be the last update for UNLOVED. Later in 2017 I have plans to add brand new enemies and more :)

In my opinion, a great part of the game is about being able to switch weapons for the one that suits best the current situation. I'm mixed for these challenges.

Doctor-only maps could be quite fun :p Or Witch-only maps.. Damn

That sounds really awesome. It's a bit like D3 Paragon basically if i understand correctly.

I guess heat be generated when you pick-up Rubies ?

Big thanks to you man :) It's good to hear you have plans to add more variety to the game !

THANK YOU - I have to say, this game has been the best surprise for me since last year, and somehow the one I don't mind picking up to play again and again. Thanks for continuing support, adding ideas and constantly giving... you're the best!

Oh crap this just officially made this game even more of an eternity grind for me! (don't misunderstand, I love grinds!)
As if trying to get every possible max level trinket or the highest title wasn't enough :steamhappy:

Love the game and as it looks I'll be playing for a long time to come!

I love the ideas here. I am very curious as to how Ruby/Ring Trinket will be balanced in terms of heat (if it gives at all) and how powerful or customizable these are. This does create encouragement to kill enemies more, and I like that.

I'm very thankful for the continued support and I think that these ideas will add some more flesh around the bones of this game.

However, I can't help but wonder about one thing: Since you have plans on adding new enemies, that suggests that you've either hired/will hire a modeler or have secretly tried becoming one yourself. If either is true, then would there be a possibility to rework the Fool's rig or to add more customization options? (as it has long been suggested)

When I started working on UNLOVED, I was a beginner with UE4 and a beginner in 3d modeling. For time's sake I decided that I need to "outsource" one of the two. I decided to do the UE4 stuff myself, because I think gameplay is much more important to "get right".

Anyway, now that I feel very comfortable working with UE4, I have decided to pick up 3d modeling again. Since I see myself more like an artist rather than a tech-guy, I think it will look alright in the game :)

When it comes to the Fool, there is a little bit of a problem. All the 3d models (weapons, arms etc) and all the animations are done in different programs by different artists. To simply "add" some new clothing for the fool would require me to redo everything that's in the game already from scratch because I didn't license the rights to the original files (you live and you learn).

There are a few ways that I've looked into, but it all comes down to a massive time sink.

Here's a deal. When I make the 3d models and animations for my next game, I will keep UNLOVED in mind. It has a somewhat similar setting and if I see that the models and animations for that new project would also fit UNLOVED and are of the same quality or better than what is already there, you might see a total revamp of the player model, animations and the addition of new playable characters and clothing. For one of my next projects, there will be also enemies from UNLOVED like the Cutter that makes a reappearance, so maybe I will convert that new Cutter to UNLOVED as well when it's done.

Maybe over time I will make a total conversion and replace all 3d assets with my own, but again I cannot make any promises since this is a massive undertaking (we're talking 30+ animations for the fool alone). I am a one-man developer, so I have to be careful what to spend my time on.

I get it, buy your next game - possibly get a rehaul of things in UNLOVED.

Nah, I kid :special:
Thanks for letting us know, and for the very elaborate answer. I will hold my thumbs and hopes in that there's room for aesthetic upgrades as I think a lot of people would appreciate it here. I wholeheartly agree on that gameplay > aesthetics anyday, anywhere, anyhow. After all, you're alone in UNLOVED, like The Fool himself. :)

Obviously I will add the overhauled new "premium" 3d models as paid DLC that you have to unlock with keys that you buy with microtransactions on the Steam store :)

What I'd really like to see is a ring bonus that increases Q reward % from photos / inks / monsters etc. That title grind is massive at the moment!

Another suggestion is Karma % increase

Not sure if you plan on the rings to just have 1 bonus stat each or if they could be a double edged sword of sorts.
For example a ring that increases your damage but at the same time drains your health (think a blood machine every X seconds for the player wearing it) but the health drain would have to stop somewhere (25% / 50%) since the start of the games can be rather low on monsters and also not kill anyone who chooses not to go melee with it.

Hm that would be rather hard to scale I imagine.... but hey, just throwing it out there!

Amazing news! I'm looking forward to it! I love this freakin game!

Everything sounds so cool :steamhappy:
I really feel this "wildcard" thing is going to give an extra Silent Hill vibe to the game (which can only be a good thing)
Glad to see there will be new features to come as well after this update.
I'm really looking forward to all of this.:steamhappy:

270 hours in... at least as much to go.

Don't getgetAbsolutely he wrong, I absolutely love the game!
Will definitely keep on playing and looking forward to seeing more of your new project.

Also I've said this a few times before, but could you remove the extra "]" that is at the end of the description in the trinket...
Power Ammo...?
...ok don't really remember the correct name atm, but it's at least apparent on a rank 3 nailgun trinket.

Again, really looking forward to the update.

You're doing an awesome job Blue.

Love this game, thanks!
Zod Feb 23, 2017 @ 3:31am
Took the liberty of reposting Sir Edward Astralis post from the mega wishlist thread since Blue wanted any new suggestions here:

I especially like Edwards suggestion of an evil clone enemy!

"You know, I really like this game. It's pretty well thought out and balanced, in a sort of dark souls kind of way. As a fan of the doom 2 mod i also can say i like the game as it is, but there are other things i would like as well...

*Hell/flesh themed room set? I remember in the original game when you go in the white room and click on the demon eye, it takes you to this flesh demon area with medieval dungeon stuff mixed in. it was my favorite area so... any chance of this would be cool. Now i'm suggesting a mixture of flesh/hellish rooms and then medieval/dungeon rooms, not two seperate themed sets. Unless you're up to that

*More trinket and evidence ideas:

Gun mods

Slugger(rank2), Elephant gun(rank3) = shotgun slugs. does a little less damage, but has a chance to crit and is pistol-ish accurate. slower to shoot, only one barrel at a time, and has higher recoil? levels reduce the fire rate penalties and improve damage

Mafia style(rank2), Hitman style(rank3) = you guessed it... dual pistols. Basically gives double the ammo and firepower with twice the reload time. im talking about mirroring, and using existing animations, but altering them by removing the extra hand, which may or may not be worth the time, but fun. this would take the custom slot; this would feature significant inaccuracy, and slower reload, but would effectively double fire rate. the trinket levels would reduce both of these penalties and have slight damage buffs.

Gangster style(rank2), Sweeper syle(rank3) = same idea, dual machine guns. mirroring and removing the extra hand, so doable, but again, a significant effort.

Melee evidence

Shank/Stilleto/Trenchknife (rank 1/2/3) = A stabbing knife that offers a quicker attack with less damage, but less stamina used. offers a better stunning ability at the cost of damage, and a small chance of a critical hit. similar to the kukri trinket but instead of weapon damage upgrades offers critical chance upgrades.

wooden bat/bloody bat/wrestler bat (rank 1/2/3) = a bat that does reduced damage, but offers longer reach and better knockback. takes more stamina. a good weapon for people who want to avoid melee, great against clowns or witches who come up close for a kiss. like the kukri rewards, but with less damage and life leech in turn for better gun damages

Ring ideas + other things.

So with the ring comes new possibilities for generic upgrades and things, and i would like to see
- critical chance ring
- critical damage ring
- health max
- armor max
- ammo max
- speed
- pierce chance (chance for a bullet to pierce and hit one extra enemy)
- bleed chance (chance for damage over time)

...and so on and so forth...

*New Monsters :

Evil clone: a gray skinned corrupted version of the player that uses a random gun and shoots at the player on sight, within a certain range. the clone will run at the player, shoot, strafe a bit, and then shoot some more. spawns as a rotten spawn

Hell shade: a melee only ghost type monster that can go through walls, and can only be killed with melee. can also go through other monsters. does nurse like damage and about the same health. (sort of like lost soul)
ROTTEN: bigger, nastier.

Butcher's eye: a floating eye that floats around, and "alerts" enemies by calling monsters from across the map to the last known sighting of the player. also fires a red laser beam type thing that slowely drains health directly from the player.
ROTTEN VERSION: a nastier version that has more health, but also summons monsters directly, and does more damage purple laser.

Forgotten one: a witch variant. a tentacled scaley mind-flayer like enemy with a cthulu look. shoots homing missiles, and resurrects enemies, one by one. does not summon monsters, does not have death spell. can also teleport closer to the player, rather than running. slow moving when not teleporting.
ROTTEN VERSION: bigger, badder, gains the ability to summon monsters from the map, 1 at a time. shoots two projectiles. "
Zod Feb 23, 2017 @ 10:50am
Got a couple of Ring suggestions:

-Increased % chance of finding a Demon Chest

-X % chance to dodge an attack

-Enemies take damage when attacking you with melee

-X % chance of increased damage for X amount of time after taking damage

and a general suggestion:

The status screen should show how much +% damage you have with your current trinket setup for each weapon.
