A very stylish update incoming! This update adds colour-swapping to the "Cosmetics" page to give your bot some extra flair! We've included some of our favs below (there are many more) 😎

We have also been working hard to resolve the noted save data issue and have implemented some fixes to mitigate this. We thank you for your patience and support. 💾

Finally, for those of you who felt dealing with parasites was a little gross, we have added a setting to make it just a bit less gross... and more starchy. 🥐

We hope you enjoy this fun little update as much as we did. Happy customizing! 👕

• NEW! Added Character Cosmetic Palettes! - Mix and match colours to make the outfit style combos.

• NEW! Added Parasites Censorship Setting - Enable this in the Settings to make parasites less gross and a whole lot sillier.

• Modified system for customer spawn chances to guarantee their appearance after a certain point.

• Customers can now be asked about their feeding preferences without having to feed them.

• Small balancing updates across the game.

• Controller should now work on dropdowns.

• Save data fixes - Game data should no longer be cleared when reloading the game in rare instances. Backup save files are also now available in the save directory.

• Global cosmetics will now be marked as “SOLD” when the item is already obtained in other worlds.

We’re still in shock seeing how far our little fishing game has come. Just a short while ago, Scale the Depths was still a small browser game jam project.

Thank you so much for playing, leaving reviews, sharing your feedback, and helping us improve the game. Every comment, suggestion, bug report, and message means a lot.

And for everyone wondering what’s next for Scale the Depths — we’ll have more details to share very soon 👀

If you’d like to talk with us, share your thoughts, or follow the game more closely, we’d love to see you on our Discord!

Steam Cloud support has been extended to macOS devices!

This should allow save data to sync between Windows and Mac. However, if you previously launched the game on both platforms while Steam Cloud was not syncing correctly, please be careful when starting the game after this update.

In rare cases, Steam may ask which save file you want to keep, or an older local save may overwrite your newer progress. If you played on multiple devices, we recommend checking the Steam Cloud sync prompt carefully and backing up your local save files before launching the game.

Thank you for your patience, and please let us know if you continue to experience any save sync issues!

A minor QOL patch for repellent, screen shake, save data issue fixes, and more. Thank you all for your patience and support. Happy fishing! 🐡

• Added Repellent Toggle to the Fishing Station - Allows you to toggle your repellent between your highest available level and no repellent

• Added Screen Shake toggle to Settings

• Changed the condition for secret fish showing up in the almanac and made it so the page crown only appears after getting them

• Fixed minor grammatical issues and incorrect fonts

• Fixed issues with disliked fish, prepped fish value reduction

• Implemented fixes to resolve some save data issues, including:

  • Issues with players getting softlocked at specific customers (especially after playing beta versions)

  • Issues with save data being incompatible with certain date formats, making it so players from certain regions couldn’t play the game (causing the Player to spawn without a boat)

  • Other minor save-related issues

• Corrected liked fish for the belted kingfishers

• Fixed the issue with being unable to immediately select or navigate the almanac on the controller

• Fixed issue with Quetzalcoatl’s sounds being audible even with the volume off

Thank you so much for playing, sharing your thoughts, leaving reviews, and spreading the word. The reception has been absolutely amazing, and we’re incredibly grateful for all the support.

We’re also reading your feedback closely. Since launch, we’ve been working non-stop on patches and improvements. Two updates are already live, and more are on the way.

Thank you for every bug report, every suggestion, and every message. They help us make the game better every day.

This launch has been wild. Thank you for being part of it. More soon!

First, we’d like to thank everyone for playing our game, and we’ve been absolutely blown away by the reception! We’ve noticed a few bugs being reported, so we did our best to try to address these ASAP.

Thank you for your patience, and happy fishing!

• Disabled VSync as it possibly caused problems with stuttering/lag.

• Fixed an issue where players would not get the achievements for the World 2 Legendary Fish and Legendary Customer.

• Fixed an issue with the compass and sewing needle baits causing them to break the game’s UI.

• Fixed the issue where the Favourite Fish Finder bait could not be purchased.

• Fixed an issue where the Puzzle Gate in Point Nemo would remain permanently shut every dive after the one where it was unlocked.

• Fixed an issue where the Elite Explorer Achievement was unlocked too early after 100% only one level, rather than all of them.

• Fixed an issue where certain letters could not be typed when trying to rename the ship.

• Fixed an issue where the anchovy was missing from the almanac.

• Fixed an issue where a boss customer of the level in progression would always be followed by the same boss customer.

• Fixed a visual bug with the Razor Sturgeonfish.

We’re aware of a couple other issues as well, and we’ll try to resolve those as soon as possible.

We started with a tiny little game jam project, and now we’re releasing a full game that has reached more people than we ever imagined it would. Seeing so many players get excited about our weird little fish-scaling adventure feels completely surreal.

We honestly still can’t believe this is real, and we’re incredibly happy to finally share the full game with you!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3198890/Scale_the_Depths/

The full game expands far beyond the demo, with:

• 4 unique locations: Loch Ness, Huatulco, Outer Banks, and Point Nemo

• 100+ fish species

• More weird customers

• More boats and character customization

• More tools and upgrades

• More hidden treasures

• More messages in bottles

• More environmental puzzles

• More bait

• More secrets to uncover

• A much deeper mystery woven throughout the adventure

If you enjoyed the demo, the full game offers more of everything… and a lot more waiting in the depths.

❗Please note: the demo stays, but progress from the demo won’t carry over to the full game. Also! If you played the demo before release, you’ll still get a few little goodies in the full game!

What’s our story? Back in 2024, we took part in GMTK Game Jam. We had just 4 days - 96 h - to make something from scratch. The core loop of fishing and scaling turned out to be weirdly addictive. So addictive, in fact, that we ended up winning the jam.

What started as a tiny prototype somehow turned into the biggest project we’ve ever made ❤️

We hope you enjoy diving into the depths as much as we enjoyed creating them!

And one last thing: if you play Scale the Depths, leaving a review is the biggest support you can give us right now. It helps the game reach more people, and for a small indie team like ours, that makes a huge difference ❤️
