This game is a lot harder than Portal 1 and 2
It could be because it was my first time playing the game, but I really had to look up walkthroughts to complete certain test chambers. Sometimes the walkthrough is the advanced mode, and no one has made a storymode walkthrough. Near the end of the game, I was so used to the games difficulty, that I finished the broken test chamber (And got the achievement)

It was an refreshing changed, playing this game after completed Portal 1 and 2 again. Im looking forward to more stories, if there is going to be more. I consider this game to be "Portal 3" it just needs a song during the credits.

Thank you for your feedback!

This mod is indeed intended to be more difficult than Portal or Portal 2.
This may come from the fact that gameplay-wise Portal Stories starts where Portal 2 ends, and the mod doesn't 'waste' the first few puzzles to get the player into the game elements again. (seriously, 99.9% of players can be assumed to have played Portal 2 before playing this mod, and we highly recommend playing Portal 2 before playing Portal Stories)

This is not meant to blame Portal 2! Of course elements have to be introduced and explained there - but it's just not needed to do it again in this mod.

There was a huge Portal 2 (and Portal 1) modding community before the PTI update came out with the map editor. Having played through most of the maps created there (1000+!), I can say that generally the more difficult maps were more fun to play for experienced players. I hope that many players of Portal Stories share this opinion and find this to be a positive thing :)

Thanks for the reply. I really had to think outside of the box with this mod, I'd love to replay the game again in Advance Mode someday

I'm curious how the chambers were made.
Did you hire a bunch of Workshop mappers or was it just one dude that made all the maps.

A few outstanding members of the Portal modding community grouped up together to create Portal Stories. The development of this mod took a pretty long time (I think 3+ years?) but I think the result is worth it :)

I was one of the three level designers for the mod. Me, LpFreaky90, and Lonewolf2056 all knew each other from the Portal 2 workshop and other Portal and Source Engine communities. LpFreaky90 started working on the mod a long time before either myself or Lonewolf2056 joined.

LpFreaky90 contacted LoneWolf2056 first to help with level design when everyone from the origonal team quit but her, and me around 5 months later in late 2013 for a little project. I don't think any of us realized how much time our "little project" was going to take, but I think it was time well spent ;)

If you wonder how the chambers were made from a technical standpoint, all levels were first drafted on paper, paint.net, or some other quick method of roughing out and itterating ideas. These paper prototypes were then made in the in-game Portal 2 editor and playtested to make sure the puzzles felt good, and were then remade again in the Portal 2 Authoring Tools - the tools used to build the chambers in Portal 2. The chambers were then tested again with fresh eyes to see if all the detailing interferred with the puzzle, and generally saw more itterations and tweaks along the way.

Hope that answers your question!

Thank you for this great game ! I too felt it difficult sometimes and had to watch walkthrough after spending hours on chambers.
You all made a really good job. Congrats !

I loved the puzzle difficulty, though sometimes I wondered if the way I solved it was the way it was intended. I did some crazy stuff to complete some of them. I'm interested to find out what the hard mode puzzles entail lol
