Fearing that i am to old for this game.
Im intrested in this game but i am 50 now.

I played from my 10 year on. From 18 or 19 ownword ego-shooters, many of them competive. Had very good eyesight, good hand eye cordination and reflexes. But now i am 50, had to get cataract ops on both eyes and have to wait to get glasses. I start to stop playing comeptive ego-shooters bvecause is becomes imposible to have any fun.

I fear this will be the same. That i waste my money and because of the roguelike elemental i will not be able to do anything in the game.

Whats you thought.

I'm 55 and I think I'm doing fine in this title. I don't have 20/20 either anymore and have to think a bit before I pull the trigger, lol.

You can play it as a fast Doom like shooter, or you can play it slow and methodically depending on the build of your character -- weapons, buffs, items, spells. There are close range options and long range options with different loadouts.

But it does get very hectic eventually, that's true, where you have to track a lot of targets and think fast. Since you said you played competitive shooters (Quake or such) you should probably outshoot most people here, I've never been good at those. There is a huge build variety and approaches to mobs. Headshots and positioning are big

There are plenty of experts on the builds here... I don't think the 2 hour refund window will give you a good idea of what the end game is going to be like, but you can at least check out if the fluidity of combat feels good to you. I think it's pretty good, other than there seems to be an aim assist even with the mouse, not sure.

[edit] I think it's shaping up a unique take on shooters and I'm pretty happy with my purchase, waiting for the 1.0 and the full Story and a new map, really looking forward to that
I am 45 and absolutely love this game and have 0 issues with it. I guess it depends on your overall gaming skill currently. I have over 200 hours in it and this is just the early access game.
IT DOES have a bit of a learning curve with the enemies and learning what not to do (like charging into groups, unless you bring the right build for it)
Once you take the time to learn everything about the enemies and strategies on dealing with them - i find it to be a blast.
My favorite thing about the game is every weapon has its own personality and doesn't just feel like a gun shooting at things. (Although you do do that)

When you have it all figured out. It is an amazing game.
If you have the patience to figure things out.
I’m not as old as you but I’m turning 45 this year, still gaming strong. I have over 300 hours in Witchfire, if that says anything, and I’m still having a blast with it. It can be challenging in the beginning, as you level, but you can play at your own pace. You don’t have to directly play it like a Doomslayer. You can be more methodical in your engagements. It’s probably best to scope out your plan of attack when going on expeditions. You can try the game for 2 hours and refund it if you don’t like it. Though, I will say that 2 hours isn’t enough to get a feel for what Witchfire has in store. Have you watched any gameplay by chance?

It's a boomer shooter in it's core, have no fear. You can have fun ignoring roguelike and extraction elements. Imagine an action-packed Indiana Jones-style shooter, except this time, Indiana Jones is a Terminator. That's what Witchfire is.
I'm 62 and my FPS twitch combat skills arent what they used to be from back in my Quake II days, but I am having fun in Witchfire.
It's hard, but I enjoy the challenge.
Thank you all! I will give it a shoot. Realy like the style and atmosphere: The gunplay seems formidable. I am totaly in for the RPG-elements, the Roguelike and light Extraction shooter
parts.

I can tell you are
a) yep, as old as you say
or
b) you are either german, austrian or swiss
by calling this genre an "ego-shooter" Especially germans love to use that term. :D
I think if the case is that can see well with glasses, the thing you should be more concerned about is your aim and reflex speed.

Guillty as charged.
I'm a bit older than you and I am doing just fine. I've always been horribly addicted to FPS games so I've never stopped playing all the new shooters so I guess I've kept my chops (perhaps a bit slower than when I was young). One beautiful thing about Witchfire is you can take your time, it's up to you when you want to increase Gnosis level (difficulty), but this game is incredibly addictive so jump in!

Looks like you've picked up this game. What do you think?

I am only in the beginning but i find it fantastic.
I going 40 and never played a lot of shooters. I like this extraction style (tarkov, hunt showdown) but i don't play competitive shooters cause I never was good to begin with. I enjoy this game. I stopped playing before last update and will pick it up on release again, the latest. You can overfarm to make things easier
You're exactly the right age to play Witchfire.

From what I can tell, this games audience is older than most. Many of us seem to be middle age with a mortgage and family. Witchfire really feels like a game built for old school FPS players, when everything wasn't rainbow vomit and simple matte colored plastic shapes.

The Astronauts still have the old blood flowing through their veins. They grew up when FPS was just starting out and have a full perspective of the genre, its capabilities and potential.

We can obviously tell that the kids who grew up on Halo are currently making really s*** games. It's like directors who grew up watching movies instead of reading books. They usually make sub par films.
I'm 55 years old, ex Quake player. Lvl 400+ in Witchfire right now. Fkn lurv this game
Dude im 46 and i can perfectly play this game fine, there are 70s playing PUBG or Warzone, and deleting teen players every day ;-)
