FPS issues for the past few days
Hello, has anything been changed in the game over the last few days?

I've been playing the game for weeks without any issues on Ultra settings, but for a few days now, my FPS keeps dropping—especially when enemies spawn nearby, during quick turns, etc.

At first, I thought it was because Velmont requires more power than the starting areas, but even turning the graphics down significantly only partially solves the problem, and it now occurs in a milder form in the starting area as well.

I've tried various graphics settings and DLSS options.

When the problem occurs, the GPU usage jumps to 100%, which never happened before, even on Ultra settings.

I am playing on my wife's computer I just built for her and so far the game has maxed out at 22 fps. Even though it was running better on lower settings at 17 fps.

Here are my specs. Anyone know why I might be having this issue? Everything to my knowledge tells me my computer should have no problem running this game and I would really like to play it.
No crashes, I also launched it through the Nvidia app and optimized the settings there (to the recommended settings), and the app set everything back to Ultra again. It really can't be a system issue.
The issue another user described here—where weapons sometimes don't fire—is something I've also experienced over the last few days.

Brooo wtf these specs shouldn't be having ANY issues whatsoever. This is my rig with double the ram and a better cpu, and I don't experience crashes or excessive framedrops, I get 120fps smooth on high settings with quality upscaling (to cut down on power consumption, not because it's needed for performance).

Are your issues limited to Witchfire or are other games affected?
We would receive a notification if a change has been implemented. You would be required to make an update to the game. I personally do not utilize the NVIDIA app. All graphics settings are handled in-game individually on my system. Worst case scenario, I’ll make adjustments in the NVIDIA control panel for each individual game if I run into an issue but I run bare bones NVIDIA control settings, more focused on performance rather than graphics. If you feel like tinkering, remove any 3rd party apps related to graphics settings and make use of in-game settings only. By chance, did you recently upgrade your NVIDIA graphics drivers?

If you're playing at 1440p then this applies to you, haven't tested at 1080p yet:

The game now wants more than 8gb of vram in alot of scenes, especially when many enemies and their visual effects are on-screen. I've switched graphics settings and upscaling amounts but in every test the game wants more than 8gb vram. I can only assume the pretty lighting added by the 0.9 patch has something to do with it.

Hoping for effect & lighting optimizations in 1.0

My issues are limited to Witchfire so far.
I am also having insane FPS issues in Velmorne, dropping to 30 and under in the previous locations I have around 144fps almost stable.
On Velmorne and Marshlands constant FPS drops.

2 Things I can think of:
- have you updated your MB's firmware? Version states 1.0, check on MSI.
- roll back your Adrenalin drivers. I had it countless times with new updates where I was suddenly playing at 20-30 fps even though before that update I had 90-110 fps. (in another game)

Before you roll back your Adrenalin driver, make sure to disable the Windows Group Policy of auto-updating from external sources, which makes Windows not automatically reinstall the newer Adrenalin version if you roll it back.
To do that:
Disable via Group Policy (Pro & Enterprise Editions)
Press Windows Key + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
Double-click Configure Automatic Updates.
Choose Disabled, then click Apply and OK.

Then delete your Adrenalin version, go to AMD site, choose your setup and left below you see 'older versions'. Choose 2 updates back and see the result.
I'm currently playing on 25.9.1 from Aug 2025 with good results.
