Oh hello, Grincher.
That would be the least of the problems.
Before a fix was introduced, he crashed people's safe files forcing them to start anew. He is able to completely cut you off from the multiplayer being it with infinite loading or by replacing your lobby list with a bunch of fake names like "Grincher's Fun Lobby" and "Grincher's Evil Lobby". He is able to snatch your IP-Adress and he is able to join private lobbies and lobbies he was already banned from.
also, you make "snatch your ip address" sound like a bad thing.
literally all you can do with someones ip address is get their GENERAL location, as in, maybe the state they live in at the most.
This has been mentioned in another discussion post, but might as well mention it here, snatching IPs in Webfishing is no hard task, in fact, even the dev mentioned it, it's as easy as grabbing a Packet Sniffer and start grabbing IPs left and right, now, what do you possibly gain with these IPs?
Nothing. Yup, nothing, the most someone can do is either DDoS you (which by that point you can just reset the Router and get a new IP, hereby why people use VPNs all the time, although I do not recommend it) or do a port scan and start finding vulnerabilities in your system, this can easily be aided by changing some firewall parameters.
I also want to declare that grincher, as Flame said, is not a bad person at all, he's just joining lobbies and does nothing until they leave, people keep mentioning trash mail or rod disappearings. I yet have to see proof that it was grincher who did it, they just probably ended up corrupting their save files on their own, and even then, its easy to have a backup of your files, Hook Line & Sinker provides automated backups when you launch the game.
They can use your IP address to impersonate you online, routing activity through your address instead of their own.
You can getport scanned. And if your pc is running anything that looks vulnerable through the firewall, even individual port connections, and fuzzing on the individual ports.
Stop downplaying the issue lol. And even if people can do extra measures THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO in the first place. People want to play a game without anything outside that said game needing them to do more things as a reacting measure.
"I yet have to see proof". Proof has actually been posted here but taken down under the false flag of "doxxing" i.e. people screenshotting that their server list is full of "Grincher's Fun Lobby". When you post proof, your post gets deleted. The only thing not being deleted are words only.
