FSX: Steam Edition Open beta [Official]
Next week (9th – 16th March 2015) we are planning to release an update for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition into open beta. The open beta will run for seven days and allow players to provide feedback about the updated before it is released through Steam to all FSX: Steam Edition players. The beta is open to everyone however you will need to own FSX: Steam Edition to take part.

We will be publishing further details regarding the open beta and the exact content of the update over the next few days. Please keep an eye on this thread for more news coming soon.

Update

Please find below the full changelog for the update. Further details of how to join the open beta will follow next week.

  • FSX: Steam Edition can now be used in Steam’s offline mode.
  • Steam Dumps are now created following crashes to help with diagnoses of reported issues.
  • Fixed issues reported with g3D.dll affecting some add-ons
  • Number of fixes for the terrain.dll crashes experienced by some users have been made.

  • Multiplayer:
VoIP communication is now using the correct device as identified in ‘Settings’.
During mission-based Multiplayer flights, if the host has activated the ‘Anti-Cheat’ flag, users who have modified their aircraft are immediately disconnected without affecting the host or other users.
The Steam ‘Invite to Game’ feature will now work by buffering the request until the user enters the Multiplayer menu.
Users are prompted to use the Steam Client to invite someone from the Multiplayer menu to become a friend on Steam.
On the Multiplayer Session and lobby screens, the text in the “Weather” section is now aligned correctly.

  • User Interface:
If ‘Show Saved Flights’ is enabled, the time stamps on the saved flight data will now show the correct time the flight was saved.
The HTML content displayed in some windows, eg. tutorials, mission help, etc., now runs in IE9 compatibility mode, rather than IE8, providing better presentation.
On the Multiplayer Session screen, the user name of the host is now shown.
On the Multiplayer Session screen, before a session is started, ‘In Briefing Room’ is now shown.

Providing feedback:
Please leave any feedback relating to the beta in this thread. Feedback in other threads may not be considered. We are interested in collecting feedback during the beta relating to follow topics only:

1. Any crashes that you experience
2. Any functions which are not working as expected but worked prior to installing the update. In other words did the update break anything?
3. Anything listed in the update notes which does not appear to be fixed or functioning as expected.

At this time we are not focusing on fixes which are not listed in the update notes or which fall outside of the scope of this update.

Update

If you are experiencing issues using the update with third party add-ons and you are using FSUIPC please can you check that you are running the latest version of FSUIPC which can be found here[www.schiratti.com].

It would really help us if you leave a comment saying if doing this resolved the issues you are experiencing.

Update

Due to all the excellent feedback we have received from everyone taking part in the FSX: SE open beta we have taken the decision to keep the beta running for a few more days. This will allow us to collect up the last of the information the community has so far provided and give players a little longer to let us know about anything else we should consider.

A big thank you to everyone who has taken part so far in the beta.

Patch notes:

- All the DX10 bugs (flickers on taxiways, missing cockpit tooltips, runway artifacts etc...) fixed, which were not core game feature they were just bugs.

- Just kidding :P

Very good news.
For many years our hopes to get fixes to known issues and optimizations to FSX were entrusted to third-party tools, in most cases of questionable effectiveness and/or repleted with undesired implications and side effects. Not to talk about all the manual tweaking and guesswork.

For the first time someone appears to be seriously working to the core of the game. Even if we know that the code can't be changed substantially, this is a good news.

hey DTG, I love you. Marry me ha ha

Will these DX10 fixes negate the need for "Steve's DX10 Fixer" suite, or will that still be needed to correct other DX10 issues e.g. black airport textures, water fixes, disappearing papi lights etc.?

GREAT JOOB DTG
Just a question...PMDG will be releasing NGX today for -SE, will that break the compatibility with it?

Somehow, I thnk you missed the joke. As far as I am aware there are no patch notes yet.

I'd prefer the fix it approach myself.

WEll it seems everyone missed the gist of the post, that there will be an upcoming beta dated
Next week (9th – 16th March 2015), therefore posting requests and opinions at this point is fruitless...wait for the announcement over the next few days for DTG to iron out and post the details...
I am definately looking forward to the info provided...

one caveat for DTG tho,
Will you be including DEVS like PMDG,Aeorsoft,flight1,razbam,VRsimulations
and others not mentioned, in the beta as well, as their DEV input would be most valuable to you and to us as well...(just a thought)

I think they just took the money, kicked back, feet on the desk and fired up a big ol' fat cigar going "rofl, millions of dollars from selling the work of all those peoples we sacked, lol" then all went on holiday to Barbados.

Oh no Hawaii because that's the only place in the world anyone wants to fly too....

I'm guessing this is going to include offline mode and also the first attempts at adressing the terrain.dll errors and the long haul crashes.

As I wouldn't fly without weather updates I'm not overly fussed about testing the offline mode - and I don't use Orbx or PMDG add ons so my FSX doesn't crash too often (did you see what I did there? :trolol:) - aaaaand I just reinstalled all my textures again yesterday after FSX just decided to randomly 'mend' itself.

So I shall pass on the beta next week....unlless - I have two installs running at the moment, if I could beta one and leave the other for now then that would be great but I don't think it would be possible.:twbuh:
