Controller Support
Please use this thread for support and troubleshooting controllers. We try to support as many controllers as possible across all platforms but we cannot test them all!

For single player you can use the keyboard if you do not have a controller.

For multiplayer you can mix different controller types and one player can also use the keyboard if you don’t have enough.

In general you should attach controllers before starting the game. Attaching or detaching controllers while the game is running may mess up player-controller pairings. Also some controllers will not be detected if they are attached while the game is running.

Feel free to post your controller and platform details that work to help others.

It would be great if we could just assign keyboard bindings to keys. For example, I could use Darwiinremote to connect my Wiimotes to my Mac and bind different keys to Wiimote presses.

mac osx 10.9.4

xbox360 controller not working. It's recognized by the driver but does noting in game. I can use a keyboard mapper to map it to the keyboard but that makes multiplayer a problem.

Hi mercurywaters, have you installed the 3rd party Xbox 360 driver?

yes i have. the controller works fine in other games and shows up in the driver software in the system preferences but doesn't work in game.

@mercurywaters:

We are running OS X 10.9.4 with both wireless and wired 360 controllers here (using that same driver).

Are you using a wireless (with receiver) or wired controller?
mercurywaters Aug 15, 2014 @ 4:18pm
wired controller
mercurywaters Aug 15, 2014 @ 4:18pm
there's really no reason it shouldn't work. its bugging me out

Does the controller work in the Main Menu if you press up and down to highlight the different buttons?
mercurywaters Aug 15, 2014 @ 4:40pm
not at all.
Big Pixel Studios  [developer] Aug 15, 2014 @ 4:47pm
Ok sorry you're having problems. I understand your frustration that the controller works with other games and it should work with MCS. We have not been able to reproduce the issue here yet but will continue to look into it.

For now all I can suggest is making sure you dont have any other drivers or software running that may interfer with USB input devices (eg USB Overdrive). Also try re-installing the Tattiebogle driver.

If you manage to resolve the issue please let us know.

ok thx

Looks like controller support in Linux is nil for me. I have all standard drivers installed (no proprietary). Controllers tested:

- Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710
- Logitech Wired Gamepad F310

Can confirm these are working currently with other Steam games such as Battleblock Theatre and Mark of the Ninja

You should really consider using SDL2 for I/O stuff like this, it supports many controllers right out of the box.

No controller support for me under Linux. The same controller works out of the box with other Steam games without any issues.

Controller: Logitech WingMan Cordless

It would be awesome if I can get this to work. This is a game that is much more fun to play with a controller.

On Mac OSX 10.8.5, Logitetech F710 does not work with the game. And Steam Big Picture recognizes this gamepad.
