Iron Barony orcs got a buff.

tried this and it didn't fix it for me.

Orc archers now have a incredible high keep value... ok, 0 was bad but archers with 79 simple is to high for a very useless unit like the regular grunts (now is much better buy elite infantry), i need disband a lot of units with Iron Barony... but i cant mantein troops, i am going to start again the game with them because the change was simple to brutal.

Seriously, only 2 orc nations with a lot of chaff units but with high keep values.

Generally speaking, most standard units have a relatively high upkeep - early in the game you can rely on your elite units which are cheaper.. later you need to maintain a more expensive standing army.

The problem is that the orc basic units are chaff units... practically useless, even with expendable rise an army is not easy and you need first turns center in economic area but you are attacked all the time, specially is frustrating when with full armies 2-3 units hold your attacks and deal a lot of damage over your units or oposite, suicide attacks from 2-3 units leave your armies damage a lot and you need rotate units to mantein first line combat value... think that orcs unlike other nations need behind main armies 1/2 full army with reserves at least.

I think that orcs need a lower unkeep.

I am not getting any betas. Do I need a code?
Jekky 18 Apr, 2015 @ 5:37am
There is no code, but you do have to opt in - just follow the instructions in the first post.

Also, make sure that the game is -not- running when you do so, or the beta branch will not appear (steam will not let you change branches while a game is open) - this includes making sure that the launcher app is closed.

Dream you have to enable the beta as listed in the first post. It should then auto-download the update (or download it when you click to run the game). It's not very big to get and there is no code nor such that you need. You just need to opt-in through steam as in the first post

Please do something about the Fonts in next beta. They are very hard to read on those backgrounds. White with slight shadow works.

I know but that option didn't materialize until later for some reason.

That was most likely the reason. All good now.

How are you meant to afford them? There are nations which take ages to get to a single economic upgrade. And given how annexation works, conquest doesn't help at all. So someone like ladvia is ♥♥♥♥♥♥, because you need to hire units because risental is going to declare war, even if you have an agent sucking their ♥♥♥♥ from turn one.

The AI often uses war to bully money from you. Declares war and then you can declare peace if you bow down and offer money (remember units won't take your provinces until they reach 0 economic status - thus even if they are sitting in your lands they get pushed out if you declare peace (which can lose the AI armies if they don't have free provinces to move those units into)).

Also remember you can make another nation like you - you can also make another nation hate another nation!

Those armies are not really lost, they just go back to the deployment queue - armies are ony lost if they are forced to retreat after a combat with nowhere to go.

Small realms have a huge advantage in terms of money because of the free upkeep on all non-mercenary units in the capitol - a large realm needs units out on the brders, but a small realm can take advantage and keep their costs down.

You also have options with agents, you can use them to delay the war if nothing else. You can also try to gain an ally which also borders the realm giving you trouble, they will be less keen to attack, and if they do, they have to fight on 2 fronts.
