But this is why we do Early Access, if a lot of people think we need even more, well we can do that.... ;-)
Some suggestions:
Could there be flanking in battles?
Economy: Could there be some buildings to build instead of 'only' paying money to upgrade a province? As far as I can see, economy is only upgrading your province, and maybe some races can build a fortification - isn't that right?
We will continuously analyze all ideas, comments and feedback intern and decide in consensus what we think might work, or even sometimes just add and test and see how something is received.
We are open to all options and we are here to listen and absorb your ideas and feedback.
Some bigger features we already have on our intern wishlists may take a bit more time to implement, but this was the whole idea behind the EA program, it perfectly fits with this project.
Our hopes and expectations are that in the next year or more this game will grow and improve again tremendously... the more souls we can get involved early into this community process the better.
We have committed ourselves on working and updating the game for at least a year onward.
We hope with your and the soon community feedback to lift the game up further.
If you want to continue to support us, shout it off the rooftops, the more exposure we get the better, and best advertising is mouth to mouth after the 9th... the game is already pretty decent and stable, but our aim and goal is to make it fantastic, unique and special.
Cheers,
Tim aka LZ
random map generator adds to the replayability, otherwise its less of a fantasy 4x / grand s trategy game and more of a war / battle scenario game. why restrict a game if you can improve on its potential? why "make it like x old game" if you can improve on the formula? why make it like this birthright? there is already a game, they can take inspiration of and improve on the mechanics. don't be stuck in the past and remember that there are more people out there that like improvements to a game / game mechanics!
That being said, as has been pointed out above, this is a community driven prject now, so if enough people really do want this, it's something we could look at adding as an optional game mode perhaps.
People do need to bear in mind though that a randomy generated map will never live up the quality of a hand-crafted one, a lot of the little details would be lost in the process - of course you may feel that the added replayability from such an option would outweight any losses in quality.
Either way, let us know what you think, the more opinions we hear on these subjects, the better.
dominion 3 / 4 also have handdrawn map look and random map generator. the map doesn't already looks a quite edgy at times and and consists mainly of some texture variations random map generator won't make a huge difference in the look in my opinion.
How many times have people played RiSK? Would you trade Middle Earth for some random crap world? No thanks.
There is a reason why Forgotten Realms etc are so popular, because they are well thought out Worlds with lots of lore and history. You cannot randomize such things.
Don't worry. You are on the right track. I prefer that you flesh out the World and expand to the west/north in DLC/Expansions. I will take an indepht world ala Forgotten Realms/Middle Earth any day over some random generic stuff.
If you have X hours to spend then maybe you should use them to do the game you envisioned and leave the "design by comitté" concept behind. There are enough generic boring random maps around. Add more history, lore and quests instead.
Also if you are doing the Birthright thing, go for a FPS mode as well ;).
then go play risk, also dwarf fortress has even more backlore and is completely randomiized :P.
