Fraudulent key abuse
This is a reply to another post, and is something I should have posted earlier. But a few days ago I was forced to revoke unredeemed keys from past bundle sites due to a previously legit site selling off and grey market sites like ♥♥♥♥♥ and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ selling fraudulent keys. No used keys were revoked, only keys that had not been redeemed were revoked. So if you had gotten one of those stolen/fraud keys you still have the game. But if you bought the game from them and haven't redeemed the key yet it will not work. Unfortunately this affects people who bought the game legit as well, if they had not redeemed their keys yet. Simply send me your unused key and if it is revoked I will send you a new one.

IndieGameStand (of which my game was on their store and was a part of their daily deal) was sold off to a Chinese entrepreneur and disappeared. They had thousands of keys and didn't provide me with a list of keys that went unsold and weren't distributed to customers. They also failed to pay us profits from the sales from their storefront.

I noticed an influx of key redemptions (mostly from China), despite there being no reason for so long after that and all of our other bundles, so I revoked all the unredeemed keys since it was my only option to prevent fraudulent key misuse. Which primarily involves selling the keys on grey market sites, which I can't name since their company's names are censored on this forum.

Unfortunately this does affect people who bought keys through legit sites and haven't gotten around to activating their key. I was hoping this number would be low since it has been more than 8 months since our last bundle. But there's no way for me to be sure.

Anyone affected by this key theft/reselling stuff, just shoot me an e-mail with the list of the unredeemed keys that were revoked and proof you bought it from a legit reseller and I will issue you new keys.

reach me at: contact@goodmorningcommander.com or you can DM me on twitter: @goodmorningcmdr

I truly regret this situation, and apologize to everyone who was affected by these scumbag key thieves and resellers.

This doesn't impact me, but you are handling the situation perfectly IMO.

I completely agree with robilar5500. This was the first time I had to contact a developer about revoked keys but after the horror stories I've heard from other people I was really impressed how professionally you handled the situation. :No1:

Thanks, I appreciate it. Been trying to make the best out of an awkward and unfortunate situation.

I'm not one of the affected, but kudos to how you're handling this and godspeed.

(I read about the situation on SteamGifts, so know that awareness about this is spreading <3)

Just curious, now that I re-read this a bunch of months later, why did you not merely deactivate the IGS keys?
allen  [developer] Mar 13, 2018 @ 1:15pm
I did deactivate the IGS keys first, but even though their site shut down and the status of those unused keys was suspicious, it turns out the number of keys redeemed matched the number of keys reported sold by that site. So if those were stolen, I had revoked them before they had a chance to misuse them.

IndieGala was the other bundle I participated in, early 2017. When the bundle started and the few weeks and months after I noticed mass key activations (as one would expect) and then they dropped off. Then the few couple of months before I revoked the keys I noticed an influx of redemptions from foreign nations and the game popped up on several third party/grey market sites- several months after the bundle where this shouldn't happen. I could only conclude IndieGala was the likely source (someone mass buying bundles and then reselling them later) since that could be the only one. I didn't have the data to verify immediately so on a knee-jerk reaction I revoked the keys. That reaction stopped the massive wave of key activations though, so I think it was successful somewhat.

IndieGala got in touch with us and confirmed no keys were stolen, but they have no way of knowing if people are mass buying keys and reselling them. In either case, we both put this issue to rest and settled it amonst ourselves. It's not anyone's fault but the fault of a bunch of people who thought they could make a quick buck by selling games they got for pennies.

Like I said, awkward and unfortunate.

I was affected too, the key I got from a Groupees bundle (Holiday Helpings #2) was fine but the ones from IndieGala Monday Motivation #15 were duplicates. I got 2 bundles and both of them had bad keys. Since I already had the game on my main account I let it be, but seeing that the topic has resurfaced I'll try and contact you on Twitter. Thanks in advance.

Nice when you can actually stick one in the eye of scammers and fraudsters.
You don't always get the chance .

China is worse than the wild-west ,full of scammers up to all sorts of thievery.

Hello. Is Ancestor bundle from Fanatical affected or only older bundles? I have already activated the game from some earlier bundle, but I have one key from this Fanatical bundle I didn't use. Thanks.
allen  [developer] Apr 1 @ 10:08am
No. Only those initial ones I made this post about are affected. AFAIK our publisher is only using Fanatical for bundles now for SoX and we have a great relationship with them so we don't expect anything like that to ever happen again. They are perfectly fine for you to use however you see fit.

So to anyone else reading this, unless you were affected by the fiasco that happened a few years ago you are completely fine. But if you do have an issue, feel free to email me at contact@goodmorningcommander.com and I'll make it right. Thank you all!
