Does stealing from the shop not make you able to buy there anymore?
On my current run I have an aged bell and I know it can be used to steal shop items, should I?

I havent ever stolen anything (Because I am an idiot), But I think the main shop closes for the rest of the run but the minor shops dont? dont quote me on this.

Ok? So is it worth it?
Stevi Oct 12, 2017 @ 5:30pm
A succesfull steal will give you a point of curse, and the shop will stay open. If you fail your steal, then it will make the shopkeeper close down. Your first steal from a shop is guarenteed to succeed.

Steal if you think it's worth it.

Ok, thanks!

Fun fact - stealing from Cursula only gives you one point of curse, while buying from her will give you 2.5. You save curse stealing from her.
Stevi Oct 12, 2017 @ 6:50pm
No? She only gives you 1 curse point.

Not that the wiki is infallible, but that's where I got my info.

https://enterthegungeon.gamepedia.com/Cursula

Believing that, I've never had any experiences that contradicted it, but I've never explicitly tested it either.

Huh, weird. Always thought it was one point. And that explains my poor math when gauging how much curse I can get before summoning the Lord of the Jammed...

Any item that lets you steal is great. Because only the 'main' shopkeeper is an issue about stealing more than once. And even then, you can steal from him on chamber 4 knowing you wont see him again anyways. Then you can steal again in chamber 5 since its shopkeeper is different, AND you can steal from any other 'bonus' shopkeeper you may find along the way. So ANY item that lets you steal is at least as good as the best item you will find for purchase in a run and more.

1-3 curse isn't a big deal either, some say it's e ven better than no curse. Unless you're doing a cursed run and you're at 9 and you don't want a reaper. That's the only time steal items aren't so hot.

Relevant info from the wiki.

Stealing from any NPC will always work the first time.
For the main shopkeeper, the second theft has a 50% chance to succeed, and any further thefts have a 10% chance to succeed. The main shopkeeper remembers the player between floors.
If the player is caught stealing by the main shopkeeper, the main shop will be closed for the rest of the run.

I recomend stealing the Prime Primer for your first steal. It's a peice for the Gun that can Kill the Past, and once you bring it to the blcaksmith in the forge you never need to get it again.

I highly recommend this too as well as game changing items after you deliver the primer and the rest of the parts

First theft with anything other than Grapple Hook: 100% chance to steal undetected
Second theft: 50% chance
Third theft onward: 10% chance
Getting caught will result in the shopkeeper no longer appearing for the rest of the run.

Special shops (Prof. Goopton, Cursula etc.) go right from 100% to 10%, however they do not become permanently unavaliable after being caught, only locked off for the specific floor.

Using the Grapple hook gives 100% chance to steal, but also 100% chance to get caught. This can be avoided by hooking the desired item, then teleporting out of the room, preventing you from being caught.

Also, failed attempts will not get you the item.
